Introduction to the job
We are seeking a Proto Engineer to join our System Integration group. You will be part of an interdisciplinary team that integrates, tests, verifies and releases our systems for Development and Engineering (D&E). Our modules include process gases, high power lasers, optics, electronics, mechatronics, and control systems. This hands-on role provides the opportunity to work with these components and become a system expert, supporting the integration project and other development teams in verifications of new functions and performance, and providing feedback to ensure successful release.
Role and responsibilities
The Proto Engineer is part of a team operating and maintaining test rigs used by D&E for design qualification, reliability testing, and issue resolution of new modules and features across ASML TWINSCAN products. Tasks include:
- Operate, maintain and optimize D&E test rigs, ensuring uptime, performance and up-to-date configuration
- Escalate issues and propose improvements to enhance system performance and reliability
- Participate in troubleshooting activities on proto systems
- Carry out and/or assist with integration, build in/build out on test rigs
- Develop, review and execute test plans; provide feedback to ensure efficient use of the test rig and maximum uptime
- Provide technical support within test plans to other D&E engineers as a generalist
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and report issues in module design to improve system performance
- Contribute to an optimal design for the complete product and create product documentation for pilot production
- Monitor test rig performance within set parameters
- Keep test rig hardware and software configurations up to date
- Transfer machine status and issue lists to the next shift via pass down
- Share knowledge with other Proto Engineers and technicians in test rig operation and troubleshooting
- Ensure a safe working environment and follow 5S principles
Education and experience
5+ years of relevant experience without a degree OR an Associate degree with 3 years of relevant experience OR a Bachelor's degree in engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Physics, Computer Engineering). Relevant experience includes:
- Experience in advanced motion control, robotics, thermal dynamics, optical devices, vacuum applications, or precision mechanics
- Hands-on experience in a multi-disciplinary technical team environment
- Knowledge of measurement systems and system functionality analysis (preferred)
- Testing experience within an R&D environment with complex prototype systems
- Experience and knowledge in operating and troubleshooting on ASML TWINSCAN platforms using diagnostic tools such as SDT, BDT, Trace Viewer, PCS (preferred)

- Willingness to work in a cleanroom environment with appropriate PPE (coveralls, hoods, booties, safety glasses, gloves) and adherence to ISO 9000/14000 standards
- Moderate temperature in the cleanroom with moderate to high noise levels
- Working around lasers, ladders, platforms, and chemicals
- Occasional movement around the campus
There is potential for exposure to strong magnetic fields, high voltage and currents. This position requires access to controlled technology as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. 730, et seq.).
