Group Fitness Instructor (Aqua Fitness) Job at Family YMCA of Marion and Polk Co

Position Summary:
Instructs group classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. To model, practice, and carry out the Y core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

Essential Functions:

• Must be reliable, prompt, and practice excellent attendance.
• Adhere to check-in and check-out policies.
• Lead energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
• Support members in achieving their health goals by answering questions and maintaining knowledge of wellness trends.
• Build authentic relationships with members and help them connect with each other and the YMCA.
• Keep accurate class attendance records.
• Follow YMCA policies and procedures and respond to emergency situations.

Requirements:

Entry Requirements:

• Required certifications: CPR, First Aid, AED, and a national certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) in group fitness instruction or YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise certification.
• Certification in Aqua Fitness preferred.
• YMCA Healthy Lifestyles certification within 60 days of hire.
• At least one year of experience teaching group wellness classes preferred.
• Reliable transportation required.
• Must pass extensive background check.

Physical/Mental Requirements:

• Ability to conduct classes and activities.
• Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position, including leading classes, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.
