Position Summary: Under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse, provides basic daily nursing care to long-term care residents, which meets the specific needs of the residents and is within the scope of practice and in accordance with the policies and procedures of the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Provides personal care assistance to patients, including bathing, dressing, eating, toileting and transportation.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of the patient care plan.
  • Observes and communicates changes in the patient’s condition to the charge nurse.
  • Obtains and documents patient vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, weight, respiration and pulse and report results to charge nurse.
  • Helps transfer patients to and from chairs, lift patients, raises patients in beds and turns the patients.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy and expresses interest in their progress.
  • Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and family in accordance with hospital standards. (Responds promptly to call lights; replenishes the ice; assures the room is neat and tidy, etc.).
  • Identifies when help is required in providing patient care needs and seeks it appropriately, recognizing own limitations.
  • As a member of the health team, maintains harmonious relationships with the unit and co-workers providing support and assistance to co-workers to ensure quality patient care.
  • Supports the department by attending, and constructively contributing to staff or other meetings as able/necessary.
  • Communicates clearly and tactfully with residents and their families.
  • Participates in stocking, sorting, and inventory of departmental supplies to ensure appropriate items are readily available for patient care needs.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient/resident/staff information.
  • Performs other related duties as requested or assigned within scope of practice.

Position Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent; Post high school vocational/specialized training.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS: Valid Nevada State CNA certificate; Current CPR certification.
