Summary of Job Expectations:
- Takes and reports vital signs, provides personal hygiene, preparatory care for procedures, and assists in ambulation.
- Assists in the care, cleaning, and maintenance of supplies and equipment.
- Identifies & reports abnormalities or changes in patient condition. Reports changes to RN.
- Provides physical comfort through positioning, bathing, oral hygiene, hair care, skin care, and ambulation.
- Recognizes adequate nutrition and fluid intake in the terminally ill patient. Feeds patients or provides assistance as needed per patient POC.
- Instructs newly admitted patients as to CNA protocol routines and time of daily arrival/calls if there is a change for home patients. In-house patients will be oriented to phones, call system, t.v.'s, and hospice house protocol.
- Uses proper technique, body mechanics, procedures, and safety precautions in meeting patient needs. Maintains a safe working environment.
- Assists in maintaining accurate Intake and Outtake records.
- Explains procedures to patients before initiating them.
- Recognizes emergencies & has knowledge of emergent procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned in a cooperative & positive manner.
- Appropriately documents care given, using the CNA assignment sheet as a guide.
- Documents arrival/departure times on progress and clinical notes.
- Demonstrates competency in performing safe/appropriate care respective of patient age, population, condition, and diagnosis.
- Complies with Universal Precautions and OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen guidelines. Maintains infection control procedures for home hospice & in-patient care.
- Maintains current AHA Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.
- Satisfactorily completes basic skills check-off list with RN yearly.
