Security Engineer / Analyst, Part-Time. This Part-Time Consultant will need to live within driving distance of Knoxville, TN; you will need to go into the office on occasion.

We’re looking for a Security Engineer / Analyst who can help us design, implement, and maintain secure environments for our clients while working closely with infrastructure, development, and compliance teams.

What you’ll do

  • Design and implement secure infrastructure and application architectures for on-prem and cloud environments
  • Evaluate and deploy security tools and technologies (SIEM, EDR, WAF, IAM)
  • Maintain secure configurations across systems, networks, and cloud platforms
  • Monitor and investigate security alerts using Splunk, Sentinel, CrowdStrike, or similar tools
  • Conduct root cause analysis on incidents and lead remediation efforts
  • Run regular vulnerability scans and coordinate remediation with dev and infrastructure teams
  • Support compliance initiatives (SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, PCI-DSS) and risk assessments
  • Integrate security into CI/CD pipelines and automate repetitive tasks using scripting (Python, Bash, PowerShell, etc.)
  • Provide guidance and training on security best practices to technical and non-technical teams
  • Stay ahead of emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and industry trends

What we’re looking for

  • 3+ years in a security engineering or related technical role
  • Strong understanding of networking, Linux/Windows OS, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Experience with tools like firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM, and endpoint protection
  • Scripting or programming skills (Python, PowerShell, etc.)
  • Familiarity with frameworks like NIST, CIS, and MITRE ATT&CK

Bonus points if you have

  • Certifications such as CISSP, OSCP, GSEC, or AWS Security Specialty
  • Experience with Docker/Kubernetes security
  • Knowledge of secure software development practices
