Job Summary

Under the direction of Security Services Administration, the Manager will be the lead for 24/7 operations of the UCSF Health or Campus Security Divisions as assigned. This position will be the primary manager for any UCSF Health hospital and clinics or Campus location they are assigned to. The position will also be required to act as liaison with numerous other UCSF Health and Campus departments, including but not limited to the Lock Shop, Engineering, Telecomm, and UCPD. The incumbent will supervise staff and maintain the records for Security Services. The incumbent may also be responsible for coordinating training and compliance needs. The position requires an individual who can work independently and perform and prioritize multiple tasks. The incumbent may also be responsible for assisting the director for the Workplace Violence Prevention (WVP) program throughout UCSF. The incumbent may support the WVP Committee and will be required to work collaboratively with various stakeholders such as the Department of Nursing, Safety and Security Services, Risk Management; Facilities, Emergency Management and other related departments, and maybe required to present information to various groups, including but not limited to senior leadership, patient care unit staff, and ambulatory clinic staff.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors, including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. The annual salary range for this position is $101,300-216,700, with a target minimum entry point of $122,186+, based on experience. Department Description

The UCSF Security Services Division strives to ensure the safety and security of learners, staff, and patients inside and outside of UCSF properties, clinics, and health facilities. They assist UCSF PD to provide a crime-free and safe environment through the highest level of professional services, integrity, respect and excellent customer service.

The UCSF Security Services Division is a Division in the UCSF Police Department. The department's overriding mission is to enhance the safety and quality of life for students, faculty, and staff across the UCSF system. By working in partnership with the community, UCSF PD strives to promote public safety and crime prevention through education and enforcement; to maintain public order while preserving the legal rights of all individuals; to provide efficient and courteous service; and to reduce the impact of crime.

The Security Services Division provides site security services to a daily population of over 60,000 people at the university and contract locations. Founded in 1864, UCSF includes the 107-acre Parnassus campus, the UCSF Medical Center, UCSF Childrens Hospitals, and Langley Porter Psychiatric Institute (LPPI). UCSF is dedicated to health sciences education, research, and patient care.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or four years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 1.6 years or more of experience managing/leading safety operations and security programs, including finance and budget management.
  • Specialized training, certification, and/or experience in diffusing assaultive behavior (e.g., Crisis Prevention Institute, or equivalent).
  • Valid California Driver's License.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Proven ability to perform, train, and supervise all aspects of the security function, including working with diverse populations and facilitating groups for training and meetings.
  • Demonstrated leadership in mentoring and advising employees; cooperative team player.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to listen, advise, and counsel employees with good judgment.
  • Ability to evaluate issues quickly, identify options, and resolve problems under pressure; manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently; good organizational and computer skills (MS Office).
  • Motivated to pursue continued education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • California State Guard Card.
  • Broad knowledge of Human Resources and UC policies and processes.
  • Prior experience in the health care field with significant judgment and discretion.
  • Background in Workplace Violence Prevention Program implementation and investigation of incidents.
