Job Summary: Ensures a safe and secure environment; provides protective service and response for the protection of the people and property of the Hospital; is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operation of Department personnel. According to Department Policy and Procedure, will assume a leadership role responsible for assisting with the orientation, training, and performance of line staff; needs above average ability in the areas of leadership, training, operational systems, and investigations. May assist in the day-to-day supervision and other duties as requested or required. Assumes the position of "responsible charge person" absent a supervisor.
Essential Functions
- Assumes all duties and responsibilities of a Security Officer.
- Assists a Supervisor/Manager with responsibility for the day-to-day operations; absent a Supervisor will assume responsible charge position.
- Assign personnel to their daily scheduled duties; reviews all pass-on, logs, journals, forms, and reports since the last tour of duty to ensure continuity of services and provide appropriate follow-up; monitor line staff performance, ensuring adherence to Department /Hospital policies and procedures; ensures Department philosophy and expectations for customer service are met; ensures adequate coverage for the next shift and unique details.
- Notifies Department/Hospital Supervisor, Manager, or Director of any special occurrences (i.e. any failure of persons, equipment, policy, or procedure disruptive to normal business or having potential for negative consequence or publicity).
- Facilitates shift training of personnel. Assists with New Employee Orientation, On Job Training, and In-Service training of personnel and promotes their growth and development. Documents personnel training records and track completion, certification, re-certification and general compliance standards are updated as needed.
- Patrols assigned areas, giving particular attention to those areas where security problems have occurred. Identifies unsafe conditions and improperly secured areas/property to help prevent theft, injuries, or damages to Hospital property, patients, visitors, and employees. Maintains strict confidentiality standards at all times.
- Investigate thefts, shortages, and other complaints involving potential criminal misconduct by questioning individuals involved with specific incidents; notify appropriate law enforcement agencies of potential/actual civil or criminal misconduct and detain suspicious individuals as appropriate; when authorized, will make arrests as appropriate; participate in subsequent court proceedings as required.
- Participates in administrative functions such as, but not limited to, creating hospital issued badges, gathering employee, POI, vendor, and student vehicle information to develop and maintain a database to manage parking compliance, document hospital issued key numbers in database, and other duties assigned by the Security leadership team.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree Criminal Justice preferred. Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No
- Licenses and Credentials: Class D Passenger Vehicle Driver's License [State License] - Generic - HR Only preferred
- Experience: Experience in hospital, security/police, emergency medical or customer services; 5-7 years preferred
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong interpersonal and communication and customer service skills; ability to de-escalate anxious/stressed people; manage a high volume of activity; crisis management; problem-solving; analytical thinking; judgment; relationship-building; community policing and risk analysis concepts; ability to earn trust and respect

Compensation and Benefits
Pay Range: $27.40 - $39.90/Hourly. Mass General Brigham offers comprehensive benefits and rewards; base pay is determined by skills, experience, education, certifications, and other factors. Details provided during offer.
