Job Description

About the Role

In this role, you will observe and report safety and security hazards related to visitors, staff, and property, under the supervision of a Security Supervisor or Assistant Manager, Security Operations.

You should demonstrate experience working with diverse populations using a welcoming, inclusive, accessible approach.

Essential Duties

  • Engage, greet, and orient visitors while protecting collections.
  • Follow institutional rules and policies, including those in the Staff Handbook.
  • Manage check-in for events and programs, ensuring smooth operation and communication.
  • Maintain posts in gardens and galleries during hours and events.
  • Assist with fire/life safety protocols and emergency situations.
  • Participate in training, briefings, and set up of wayfinding and visitor engagement materials.
  • Stay informed through staff communications and meetings.
  • Assist patrons with accessibility aids, ensuring proper access for service animals per ADA guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Candidate Requirements and Experience

  • Clear communication skills in person, in writing, and via radio.
  • Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and overtime.
  • Friendly, outgoing demeanor with strong people skills and body language awareness.
  • Experience in customer service or hospitality preferred.
  • Interest in cultural collections and familiarity with The Huntington.
  • Ability to handle fast-paced and quiet periods with focus.
  • Good judgment and willingness to act as a first responder in emergencies.

Working Conditions

Physical demands include standing for long hours, wearing a radio earpiece, and physical mobility to walk, climb stairs, and lift up to 30 pounds. Visual acuity and alertness are required, and outdoor work in various weather conditions may be necessary.

Compensation & Benefits

We offer competitive pay at $18.50/hr, a 403(b) retirement plan with matching, generous paid time off, staff discounts, free museum admissions, and visitor passes.
