Position Title: Director, Online Learning

The Director, Online Learning provides leadership and management of daily operations for all aspects of Online Learning, including strategic planning, faculty development, quality assurance, assessment and support services. The Director is responsible for developing and delivering training resources for basic and advanced concepts of course design, overseeing the online learning management system (LMS), serving as the Quality Matters Coordinator, and managing the Online Learning budget. The Director provides oversight and supervision to direct reports.

Specific Responsibilities
In collaboration with the Dean of Online Learning and Media Services, manage all aspects of Online Learning, including annually assessing initiatives and establishing strategic priorities.
Oversee quality assurance and delivery of courses in online, hybrid, and HyFlex modalities; manage internal quality assurance peer reviews and ensure courses meet college policies and quality standards.
Coordinate plans for new online and hybrid course and program offerings with Department Heads, Deans, and Academic Scheduler; monitor master schedule information and enrollment.
Manage ongoing orientation and professional development for faculty teaching online, hybrid, and HyFlex courses.
Create training materials and deliver training on basic and advanced concepts of course design.
Serve as the Quality Matters Coordinator.
Hire and provide leadership to direct reports; use data to evaluate program effectiveness, survey students and faculty, analyze retention and student support services, and ensure compliance in online modalities.
Disseminate information and respond to data requests to support Online Learning among key audiences; collaborate with Academic Technology and IT on technology needs and training.
Oversee maintenance of up-to-date information about the Office of Online Learning in college media and platforms.
Develop and manage the Online Learning budget and maintain related records.
Oversee the LMS, including contract management, payment, and supervision of the LMS administrator.
Maintain understanding of trends in technology and pedagogy for Online Learning.
Collaborate with campus offices to ensure appropriate student support for online, hybrid, and HyFlex courses.
Oversee all aspects of student support, including addressing issues, information requests, and developing support materials; monitor student LMS accounts.
Serve as primary contact and compliance officer for NC-SARA.
Develop positive working relationships with faculty across modalities and with Online Learning Advisory Group.
Comply with all college policies and provide professional customer service.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
Five (5) years of experience in online learning in an education or corporate setting.
Prior supervisory experience required.
Experience planning and implementing learning technologies and LMS-related software.
Knowledge of learning theories, instructional design, and outcomes-based assessments.
Knowledge of LMS, computer platforms, and content authoring software.
Understanding of online instructors and student needs.
Quality Matters certification for Peer Reviewer or willingness to obtain within 6 months of start date.
Strong communications skills and ability to work with diverse populations.
Ability to work independently, create systems and processes, and maintain organizational effectiveness.
Demonstrated leadership and commitment to student success and inclusive environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Education or related field with instructional design training.
Five (5) years experience managing and delivering online learning programs and instructional design.
QM Coordinator certification strongly preferred.
Experience integrating student support services into various modalities.
Project management experience.
