Overview

Hope High School Online is seeking a full-time Science Teacher to deliver advanced science courses—including chemistry and physics—in an engaging online format. As an Agile organization, we utilize the Scrum framework to foster collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement across teams. The ideal candidate will be mission-driven and aligned with our commitment to inspire students to make better choices and be champions of their own learning in an alternative, non-traditional school environment. The teacher will facilitate student learning, provide personalized support, and actively collaborate on curriculum development and school initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Teach advanced science courses aligned with Blueprint Education curriculum and supplement as needed to meet diverse learner needs.
  • Provide timely, actionable feedback on student work within 2 business days.
  • Respond promptly to student inquiries and foster a respectful, supportive online environment.
  • Monitor engagement and academic progress; implement interventions and tutoring tailored to student data.
  • Collaborate with Academic Coaches, ESS, ELL, and other staff to support accommodations and promote equitable learning outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of student progress and communications.
  • Hold and maintain required teaching certifications and comply with all applicable local, state, and national regulations.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with online teaching technologies and model responsible digital citizenship and intellectual property compliance.
  • Address inappropriate student behavior promptly and professionally.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development focused on online science education and digital pedagogy.
  • Advocate for quality online science teaching and collaborate with stakeholders to enhance student success.
  • Participate actively in professional learning communities, team meetings, and school events fostering a positive, inclusive culture.
  • Collaborate with curriculum teams to revise and update advanced science content ensuring alignment with standards and learner needs.
  • Contribute to a culture of respect, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Primary Goals

  • Deliver high-quality, standards-aligned advanced science instruction in an online format.
  • Support student engagement, academic growth, and personalized learning strategies.
  • Foster a collaborative culture that promotes continuous improvement and innovation in online science education.

Additional Roles/Responsibilities

  • Communicate regularly with students and parents about academic progress and expectations.
  • Recognize and celebrate student achievement and growth to motivate engagement.
  • Reflect on instructional practices to enhance content knowledge and teaching strategies.
  • Attend in-person school events occasionally as needed.

Educational Requirements

  • Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate (preferred).
  • In lieu of Arizona teaching certificate, one or more of the following:
    • An advanced degree or significant experience in a relevant field.
    • Passing a subject knowledge exam from another state or through the Arizona Department of Education.
    • Completion of specialized coursework or possessing 24 credit hours in the subject.
    • Holding National Board Certification in the subject area.
    • Experience teaching advanced science courses (chemistry, physics) online (preferred).
    • Qualified and capable of providing math tutoring as well (preferred).
  • Strong digital skills and comfort with online instructional platforms.

  • Ability to deliver advanced science content effectively in a virtual environment.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and colleagues.

Physical Requirements

While performing the responsibilities of this job, the employee is required to:

  • Work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Communicate effectively via digital and virtual platforms.
  • Occasionally attend in-person school events.
  • Perform tasks requiring repetitive hand and arm motions consistent with online teaching.

Compensation/Salary

  • Full-time, approximately 40 hours per week, 12 months per year.
  • Annual salary 50k-60k based on qualifications and experience.
