Overview We are one of the nation's largest MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) design-build firms, providing comprehensive lifecycle solutions for complex building systems. We integrate design, construction, energy, and service into a single, collaborative process that delivers maximum value. Our projects span multiple industries, including healthcare, mission-critical, education, infrastructure, and commercial development.
Interested in this role You can find all the relevant information in the description below. Position Summary As a
Mechanical Design Engineer , you will play a critical role in shaping the engineering foundation of our design-build projects. You will work alongside senior engineers, project managers, construction teams, and BIM specialists to design innovative, cost-effective, and constructible MEP systems. Your work will influence how systems are integrated from concept through construction and into long-term building performance. Key Responsibilities
Assist in the design and layout of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection (MEP/FP) systems for complex commercial and institutional buildings. Perform engineering calculations, system sizing, and equipment selection using tools such as Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP, Revit, and Excel-based models. Create and develop construction documents, drawings, schematics, riser diagrams, and specifications in collaboration with the BIM/VDC team. Utilize Revit, AutoCAD, and other design software to produce 3D models and coordinate system layouts with other trades. Support drawing submittals, updates, and as-builts throughout the project lifecycle. Participate in clash detection reviews and model coordination using Navisworks or BIM 360. Conduct pressure drop, load, and energy analysis to ensure systems meet performance and sustainability criteria. Identify value engineering opportunities and assist in life-cycle cost analysis and energy performance modeling. Ensure system designs comply with codes (ASHRAE, NEC, NFPA), building regulations, and client standards. Collaborate closely with construction, estimating, and procurement teams to ensure constructibility, cost-efficiency, and seamless design-to-build transitions. Support prefabrication efforts through coordinated model reviews and detailed component breakdowns. Participate in design-build kickoff meetings, constructability reviews, and equipment strategy planning. Attend design meetings with owners, architects, consultants, and internal teams to present concepts, gather feedback, and implement revisions. Assist in preparation of project design narratives, submittals, and basis-of-design documentation. Respond to RFIs, submittal comments, and design change requests from construction partners and project stakeholders. Continuously build knowledge of industry trends, materials, systems, and tools through internal training and mentorship. Support sustainability and innovation initiatives such as LEED certification, Net-Zero strategies, and new technology integration. Participate in QA/QC reviews and lessons-learned processes. QualificationsEducation
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related discipline is required. EIT (Engineer-in-Training) certification preferred; PE license is a plus (or intent to pursue). Experience
5+ years of engineering experience in MEP design or construction Technical Skills
Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, and engineering software such as Trane TRACE, HAP, or SKM. Familiarity with energy modeling, system controls, prefabrication techniques, and sustainability practices. Knowledge of applicable building codes and standards (ASHRAE, NEC, NFPA, IBC, etc.).
