Phlebotomist - Clinical Lab Department at Providence Holy Family Hospital in Spokane, WA

Shift Details: Part-time, Variable shift and hours from 4-10 hours in length

The Phlebotomist position proficiently and expediently obtains blood samples from patients for diagnostic laboratory testing, while maintaining an attitude of courtesy and professionalism. Venous blood samples are collected from patients of all ages, including the elderly and the very young. Capillary collections are performed using finger and heel sites, generally from infants and children. The role may also involve limited collection of biological samples for microbiology tests when working in the Outpatient Patient Service Center. Other responsibilities include specimen processing and distribution, outpatient reception, and semi-technical and clerical duties to support the overall diagnostic services provided by the laboratory. Work usually follows standard operating procedures with exceptions or unusual situations referred to appropriate technical, nursing, or supervisory personnel. Some analysis and adaptive thinking is required in applying operating procedures, technical standards, methods, and techniques to perform tasks successfully.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain venous blood samples from patients for diagnostic laboratory testing, following standard procedures and safety practices.
  • Perform capillary collections using finger and heel sites for appropriate patient populations.
  • Collect limited biological samples for microbiology tests when applicable (Outpatient Patient Service Center).
  • Assist with specimen processing and distribution, outpatient reception, and related clerical duties to support laboratory operations.
  • Adhere to standard operating procedures and escalate unusual situations to technical, nursing, or supervisory staff as needed.
  • Apply analytical thinking and adapt procedures to ensure accurate and timely task completion.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • H.S. Diploma or GED
  • Upon hire: Washington Medical Assistant Phlebotomist Certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of Medical Assistant course
  • Formal education in phlebotomy or college courses in anatomy, physiology, and other clinical sciences
  • 1 year computer experience
  • 1 year laboratory or related science experience
  • 1 year working experience or internship in a clinical laboratory, physician's office, plasma center, or related setting

Pay Range: $20.94 - $29.87

The listed base pay range may be supplemented by additional compensation, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
