The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology

has outstanding opportunities for temporary Phlebotomists at Harborview Medical Center. In this role, you will rotate between inpatient and outpatient areas performing phlebotomy on patients of all ages. You will prioritize effective work in a fast-paced clinical environment. The role also involves assisting with quality assurance, equipment maintenance, orientation and training of students and new employees, education, and communication with nursing units, patients, and physicians regarding laboratory services.

Work Schedule

  • Positions available to work on call or as needed (for vacation or sick-time coverage).

Required Position Qualifications

  • High school diploma and completion of a phlebotomy course OR equivalent education/experience.
  • Legal Requirement: Current Medical Assistant-Phlebotomy Certification (MA-P) with the Washington State Department of Health, or obtain the MA-P within 60 days of start date.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients and collection equipment.
  • Perform phlebotomy on patients.
  • Perform laboratory testing procedures.
  • Instruct patients on proper collection of urine specimens.
  • Interact with patients, their families, departmental, and hospital staff.
  • Perform related duties as required.
