This position works under the direction of the Museum Curator I with some supervision in daily activities by lead workers. The reporting location is at Hearst Castle, Hearst San Simeon, SHM, Collections Management Office on the Hilltop. Employment is typically 3-4 days a week year-round. This position requires working weekends and holidays, hours are 6:30 am to 3:00 pm. You must purchase and wear a DPR uniform and conform to minimal grooming standards.
This position may work up to 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months. This position is designated as not telework eligible.
Senior Maintenance Aides clean the interior of Casa Grande, three Guest Cottages, storage and exhibit areas, and artwork on the grounds. Duties include cleaning tasks that ensure public health and safety standards are maintained, museum housekeeping of the historic building, and care of the museum art collection. Specialized training is provided on site.
Senior Maintenance Aides also work as part of a team performing more technical work, assist conservators or work on special projects. Under supervision, duties may include helping with moving, storing, and packing works of art, set up and take down of special events and Holiday decorations, helping with the integrated pest management program, and temperature and humidity regulation.
Must be able to read and write English, follow instructions, and work independently, ability to work with equipment and other tools appropriate for the job and willingness to work on ladders and scaffolding.
The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

Working Conditions
Working in the interior and exteriors of historic structures around artifacts, and under adverse weather conditions (extreme heat, high winds, and rain). Exposed to cleaning products, chemicals, dirt, dust, mold, fumes, unpleasant odors, loud noises, and waste from rodents and other pests. Hearst San Simeon SHM is open 7 days a week and the schedule is based on operational need and may change at any time. The position typically works 6:30am to 3:00pm, 3 to 4 days per week with a maximum 1,500 hours per calendar year, and may include work on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, and at odd or irregular hours. Must adhere to departmental uniform requirements. Outdoor work is common. The incumbent will need to be able to perform the essential job functions (duties) of this position with or without reasonable accommodation. Requires the ability to access all areas of the facility throughout the workday, climb four floors approximately five times per day, lift up to 35 pounds, and climb a six-foot ladder. Daily duties require the incumbent to stand, sit, and walk with repetitive leg and arm movements and constant hand grasping and finger dexterity. May occasionally bend, reach forward and overhead, squat, and kneel. Frequent and prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting. Requires moderate physical work, moderate lifting, pushing, or pulling.
