INTERIM HS PRINCIPAL

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Valid New Jersey Principal Certificate or eligibility

2. Minimum experience as determined by the board

3. Demonstrated leadership skills in the areas of curriculum development , program

evaluation, staff development and school improvement

4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills

5. Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal

resident alien status

6. Current residency in New Jersey, approved residency waiver or candidate agrees to

obtain residency within one year of employment

REPORTS TO:

Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent

JOB GOAL:

The building principal assumes the responsibility for the leadership, supervision, and coordination of the total educational programs within the school, and, in so doing, establishes and maintains an effective educational environment in which learning and instruction takes place. The principal will work harmoniously with the staff, the students, the administration, the support staff, and the community. He or she will also ensure that the educational goals established by the District Board of Education be achieved.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

School Leadership

1. Assumes responsibility for the management of the school in accordance with law,

administrative code and board policies and regulations.

2. Exercises leadership in school-level planning for improvement of instruction.

3. Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.

4. Keeps the superintendent informed of school activities and needs and works

cooperatively with central office staff on matters relating to the school and the district.

5. Inspects, with the Business Administrator and/or Facilities Manager, all plant facilities

to insure the efficient and healthful operations of the building.

6. Analyzes and evaluates the school's academic facilities and equipment to determine

recommended changes and improvements.

7. Establishes effective procedures for the security and the accountability for all school

facilities, property, equipment, funds, and records as appropriate to the principal's

areas of management.

8. Engages in personal educational research and professional development to remain a

lifelong learner.

9. Serve on the district's committees germane to areas of responsibility.

Curriculum and Instruction

1. Assists in the selection of appropriate instructional materials and monitors delivery of

the instructional program.

2. Participates in the development, evaluation and revision of curriculum and assumes

responsibility for the implementation of approved programs.

3. Plans, organizes and supervises all curricular and extracurricular activities.

4. Is responsible for the efficient and economic use of educational materials and supplies.

5. Is responsible for budgeting as related to the school's curricular and co-curricular

programs.

6. Ensures the proper collection, safekeeping, and accounting of school activity funds.

7 Coordinates classroom visits, lesson plans, and instructional processes to

students achievements on standardized tests.

8. Supervises the planning, development, implementation, and evaluations of school

academic programs.

Supervision and evaluation of school staff

1. Interviews, recommends for appointment, assigns, supervises and evaluates the

performance of all school employees and assists them in achievement of their job

goals.

2. Conducts periodic observations of teaching staff members; prepares written

comments; and offers constructive suggestions for improvement when appropriate.

3. Conducts staff meetings as necessary for the proper functioning of the school.

4. Is responsible for employee relations within the building and participates in resolving

grievances, complaints, and/or labor difficulties.

5. Is responsible for determining the employment needs of the building.

6. Participates in the selection of professional staff members.

7. Works cooperatively with the administration and the staff in achieving the district's goals, objectives, long-range plans, and the annual SIP plan.

8. Monitors the staff attendance records according to district policy and, in so doing, (a)

makes every effort to obtain suitable substitutes, and (b) confers as necessary with

staff members pursuant to improve attendance and/or latenesses.

9. Analyzes and evaluates the effectiveness of the academic staff, the school programs,

and the appropriate administrative areas for recommended changes and improvements.

10. Is responsible for the development and distribution of handbooks for teachers,

coaches, and club advisors.

11. Is responsible for the development and implementation of all school in-service and

faculty meeting programs, collaborating with the local PD committee to provide

effective and engaging staff professional development.

12. Assumes the responsibility for textbook orders, inventories, and care.

13. Conducts Walkthroughs and reviews data they provide. Publishes data as needed.

Office management and administrative efficiency

1. Prepares and submits the school's budget requests and monitors the expenditure of

funds.

2. Establishes and maintains an efficient office system to support the administrative

functions of the school.

3. Ensures the safekeeping of student and personnel files and other confidential records

and documents; and the destruction of public records in accordance with law and

regulations.

4. Reports incidents of violence, vandalism and substance abuse. Works cooperatively

with law enforcement authorities in maintaining a safe and drug-free school

environment.

5. Ensures the removal of students in possession of firearms from the general education

program and provides notification as required by law and administrative code.

6. Prepares or supervises the preparation of all reports, records and other paperwork

required or appropriate to the school's administration.

7. Assumes an active and positive role with other administrators in the preparation for

state monitoring, QSAC visitations, and other similar evaluation processes.

Scheduling

1. Develops and maintains a master schedule for the academic, extracurricular

programs, and works cooperatively with the business administrator to schedule

community use of the school building and grounds.

2. Approves the master teaching schedule and classroom assignments.

3. Plans, schedules and supervises fire and other emergency drills as required by law

and board policy.

4. Insures that all building testing programs are conducted in an environment which is

educationally conducive to student assessment.

5. Organizes the school calendar as to not conflict with other district events. Publicizes

these events to the community.

Contact with Students

1. Interacts appropriately with students during the school day, supervising them

accordingly.

2. Receives reports of harassment, intimidation and bullying and follows established

timelines and protocols in addressing them.

3. Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary in

accordance with board policy and the students' rights to due process.

4. Participates in the planning and delivery of intervention and referral services for pupils

who are having difficulty in their classes and who have not been classified in need of

special education.

5. Establishes the confidence and respect of the students, expressing firmness,

consistency and impartiality with all pupils.

Contact with Parents, Guardians, and the Local

Community

1. Plans and attends special events held to recognize student achievement and other

school-sponsored activities and functions. Speaks with clarity, authority and

appropriate earnestness at such events.

2. Plans and supervises regularly scheduled parent/teacher conferences; and makes

arrangements for special conferences as necessary.

3. Acts as a liaison among the school, district office, home and community; interprets

policies, programs and activities; and encourages broad community participation in

the affairs of the school. Communicates information to parents and the community

that is required by law or administrative code.

4. Notifies immediately the parent or guardian and the chief school administrator to

arrange for an immediate examination by a physician of any pupil suspected of being

under the influence of alcohol or other drugs or of using anabolic steroids.

5. Participates in appropriate curricular articulation within the district and with

constituent districts.

6. Improves the services that the school renders to the students and to the community

by working directly with parent/teacher groups and other school or civic organizations.

7. Immediately notifies the appropriate school staff with regards to any issues of child

abuse. Reports any suspicion to the Division of Child Protection and Permanence.

Implements Policies that are Adopted by the School Board

1. Remains current with the policy manual as adopted and updated by the school board,

implements the policies, and reports to the board via the superintendent on policies

that may need to be modified in order to improve student achievement.

2. Ensures the state required HIB policies are followed within the district.

Other

1. Assumes responsibility for his/her continuing professional growth and development by

attendance at professional meetings, memberships in professional organizations,

enrollment in advanced courses, and by reading professional journals and other

publications.

2. Performs other duties which may be assigned or required by law, code, regulation,

superintendent, or board policy.

Salary

$495.92/daily rate

Anticpated Dates:

October 1, 2025 through January 30, 2026
