Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled

Pharmacy Data Engineer

to design, build, and maintain data infrastructure that supports pharmacy operations, clinical decision-making, regulatory compliance, and business intelligence. The ideal candidate will have expertise in healthcare data standards, pharmacy systems, and data engineering best practices, with a passion for improving patient outcomes through data-driven insights.

Primary Responsibilities Data Pipeline Development:

Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest and transform pharmacy-related data from multiple sources (EHR/EMR, dispensing systems, claims, clinical systems). Ensure data accuracy, timeliness, and completeness for downstream analytics and reporting.

Data Integration & Management:

Work with structured and unstructured healthcare data, including prescriptions, medication orders, insurance claims, formulary data, and clinical outcomes. Integrate pharmacy data with enterprise data warehouses and cloud-based platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP). Implement data quality checks and validation frameworks to meet compliance standards (HIPAA, FDA, DEA).

Collaboration & Stakeholder Support:

Partner with pharmacists, clinicians, data scientists, and business analysts to enable insights that improve medication safety, adherence, and cost optimization. Collaborate with IT and compliance teams to ensure secure handling of PHI and adherence to data governance standards.

Performance Optimization:

Optimize queries, databases, and data models to improve processing speed and efficiency. Support real-time data processing needs for pharmacy operations and inventory management.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, Health Informatics, or a related fields Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, and one or more ETL frameworks (e.g., Airflow, dbt, Informatica, Talend). Experience with healthcare/pharmacy data standards (HL7, FHIR, NCPDP, RxNorm, SNOMED CT). Proficiency with cloud data platforms (AWS Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks). Familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Cassandra). Knowledge of data warehousing, data lakes, and streaming technologies (Kafka, Spark). Understanding of pharmacy operations, prescription workflows, medication management, and claims processing. Experience with pharmacy information systems (e.g., Epic Willow, Cerner PharmNet, Pyxis, or retail pharmacy systems) is a plus. Strong problem-solving, analytical, and critical-thinking skills. Ability to work cross-functionally and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Detail-oriented with a focus on data quality, compliance, and security.
