JOB SUMMARY
The Product Engineer will be responsible for specifying, developing and sustaining new and existing products for the First Responder market (Fire, Military, EMS and Law Enforcement).
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop new products within a cross functional team environment using a staged-gate new product development process
Collaborate on development of concept and rapid prototypes for purpose of proof-of-concept and performance evaluation
Develop specifications from marketing requirements and product vision
Design to meet specifications and re-use objectives
Hold and/or participate in design peer reviews
Plan, perform and oversee product verification testing and certification testing
Oversee regulatory agency approvals for NFPA and EN certified products via UL, SEI, BTG
Select and evaluate components for new designs
Provide effort and risk estimates for new development work
Work with manufacturing and apply best Design for Manufacturing (DFM) practices
Work with manufacturing engineers to develop manufacturing test requirements, concepts, fixtures, etc.
Support sustaining operations and drive re-design/value engineering of legacy products
Develop engineering specifications for existing legacy products
CORE SKILLS/COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS
Familiar with NPI process and project management principles
strong skills in digital and analog system architecture and schematic development
experience designing to meet regulatory requirements
Excellent teamwork skills
Experience applying six sigma methodologies
Fundamental understanding of product development, rapid prototyping, design for manufacturability, FMEAs, and other engineering principles
Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to interact successfully with all levels of management as well as a diverse workforce
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Previous experience designing resin-based molded products is preferred
EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in related field required
1-3 years' experience
