Posting Summary

The University of Vermont ( UVM ) seeks a compassionate, experienced, and forward-thinking Medical Director to lead clinical care within Student Health Services ( SHS ), a unit of the Center for Health and Wellbeing ( CHWB ). This leadership role is critical to ensuring the delivery of high-quality, inclusive, and evidence-based healthcare for UVM students, with a focus on whole-person wellness.

The Medical Director serves as one of two chief clinical officers, providing consultation on complex medical issues, overseeing clinical staff, and directly caring for students. We are especially seeking candidates with expertise and passion for transgender-affirming care, disordered eating and body image concerns, and the complex health needs of young adults.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Leadership: Serve as a senior clinical leader within SHS , providing guidance on complex and high-risk medical cases, and ensuring consistency in quality and safety across all clinical services.

Direct Student Care: Deliver inclusive, student-centered primary care to UVM students. Emphasis on young adult medicine, including chronic disease management, reproductive and sexual health, and transitional care.

Special Focus Areas:

Transgender and gender-affirming care in a respectful, affirming, and informed manner.

Evaluation and management of disordered eating and body image issues, in coordination with counseling and nutrition staff.

Care for students with complex, chronic, or co-occurring medical conditions.

Supervision & Support: Supervise a team of nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other SHS clinical personnel, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Health Equity & Inclusion: Actively incorporate awareness of social determinants of health and work to reduce barriers to care for historically underserved populations.

Student Wellness Engagement: Participate in health education, prevention, and outreach initiatives that promote student wellbeing.

Collaboration: Work closely with the Director of Student Health Services, Counseling and Psychiatry Services, and Education and Outreach.

Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

MD or DO from an accredited institution.

Board certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or a related field.

Active or eligible medical licensure in Vermont.

3-5 years of clinical experience, preferably in adolescent/young adult, primary care, or college health.

Demonstrated leadership experience and commitment to clinical excellence.

Experience in transgender health, disordered eating, and the medical complexity of young adult populations.

Proven ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and identities.

Desirable Qualifications

Prior experience supervising advanced practice providers (NPs, PAs).

Experience in college or university health settings.

Familiarity with interdisciplinary care teams and electronic health record systems.

Anticipated Pay Range $192,500-$201,666.67 (11mo term)

Other Information

This is an 11-month term with 1 month off contract in the summertime.

All CHWB employees are considered Healthcare workers as defined in Vermont State Law.

Vaccination against infectious diseases helps to protect against contracting infectious diseases and helps to provide “herd immunity”. Vaccination of staff also provides additional protection for students who seek care with us, some of whom are immunocompromised or unable to receive vaccines for medical reasons.

The following vaccinations are required for all CHWB employees:

· Rubeola (measles)- two rubeola vaccines, two MMR vaccines, OR a positive rubeola titer

· Mumps- two mumps vaccines, two MMR vaccines, OR a positive mumps titer

· Rubella- one rubella vaccine, one MMR vaccine, OR a positive rubella titer

· Varicella (chicken pox)- two varicella vaccines OR a positive varicella titer

· Tdap (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Acellular Pertussis) a one-time only dose for adults

· Hepatitis B- a series of two OR three vaccines (depending on manufacturer), followed by a positive Hepatitis B surface antibody. An employee may decline Hepatitis B vaccination and testing.

· Tuberculosis (TB) screening:

o A negative “two step” PPD or a negative IGRA blood test (QuantiFERON Gold)

o Note: if you have had positive tuberculosis testing in the past it is very important that you send any records related to testing and/or treatment, and the results of your most recent chest x-ray.
