REPORTS TO: Chief School Business Official
SUMMARY:
This position provides custodial services and transportation for the children and peers of Avoca School District 37.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Transportation: Provide safe and efficient transportation of children to and from their homes, and any field trips for the children and peers of Avoca District 37. Observe and follow all regulations of the State Board of Education and the policies, rules and regulations of the Secretary of State.
Janitorial: Provide a clean, safe environment in areas as assigned (including classrooms) to prescribed standards of cleanliness. Observe and follow all regulations of the State Board of Education.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Operate assigned vehicles on a regular schedule as arranged and assigned by the Business Office. Start each route in time to reach scheduled stops on time. Perform daily inspection of the assigned vehicle to insure it is in a safe operating condition and exercise every possible care in its use and maintenance; keep the vehicle clean inside and outside. Permit no student to leave the bus at other than their designated stop without written permission of the parent. Maintain discipline on the bus at all times and report cases of disobedience to the school principal. Make sure riders are seated whenever the bus is moving, and maintain a reasonable noise level on the bus. Drive the bus at a safe speed in accordance with posted traffic signs and regulations. Observe laws governing the driving of school bus stopping on the highway, entering and leaving the highway, changing lanes and crossing railroad tracks. Do not use or have your personal phone visible while driving unless it's an emergency. Refrain, while on duty, from use of alcoholic drinks, tobacco and profane or unclean language and require students to conduct themselves likewise. Be professional while speaking on the bus radio. Fill the gas tank only after all passengers have been discharged from the bus. Report immediately to the Business Office any accident, traffic control signal problems and unsafe conditions of the vehicle. Be prepared for emergencies by attending district training and keeping the emergency folder on the bus up to date. Perform daily and scheduled housekeeping duties as required. Prevent needless waste or careless use of supplies, equipment or other utilities. Remove hazards and dangerous conditions which could result in accidents or fire. Make minor repairs to equipment as required. Assist organizations using school facilities. Carry out other duties such as: Lunchroom setup, takedown and clean up Fill supply requisitions and delivery them to both buildings (MM) Check in and deliver packages to staff in both buildings Clean and sanitize high touch surfaces Police front hall, entrance, hallways and outside around the buildings Check outside doors are secure Snow removal Check bathrooms for cleanliness and that paper and soap supplies are adequate Empty hallway recycling containers into exterior bins Snow Removal Lining sports fields (MM) Empty garbage and recycle cans around the fields (MM) Cleaning glass doors, windows and display stands Cleaning sinks and drinking fountains as needed Dust library books and shelves Clean stage and stairs Buff floors and clean carpets Replace light bulbs and check exit lights to make sure they are working Raise and lowering the flag as instructed by the State of Illinois Paint as directed Minor plumbing as directed Assist in periodic filter changing on air handlers and univents Assist in arrangement for special events, setups and building requests Activate building security systems as assigned
Perform other duties directed by Head or Lead Custodians, Principals and/or Chief School Business Official. SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:
Be able to read and write the English Language. Proficient computer skills to work with district email and custodial/maintenance programs. Demonstrate aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities. Possess good moral character and such personal attributes to be able to get along well with children, teachers, parents and peers PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Meet the driver and physical standards for a Bus Driver Permit. Have the ability to lift objects that may weigh or exceed 50 pounds on a daily basis. Be able to climb up and down stairs and ladders. Be able to work in environments subject to extreme cold or heat. EDUCATION + EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Hold or attain a School Bus CDL (Commercial Drivers License) with a passenger endorsement, a school bus endorsement and a school bus driver permit within 60 days of employment. COMPENSATION + BENEFITS:
Competitive salary commensurate with degree and experience. Range = $23.00 - $25.00 per hour Comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, retirement plan, and paid time off
