Position Summary: The Senior Certified Medical Assistant / Lab Lead will provide advanced clinical support to physicians and nurse practitioners in our busy medical oncology/hematology department while serving as the primary lead for laboratory operations. This full-time role runs Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM – 6:30 PM. The ideal candidate is a Certified Medical Assistant with strong phlebotomy skills, leadership ability, and prior experience in a specialty practice. Key Responsibilities

Serve as lead MA and point of contact for laboratory operations, ensuring proper specimen handling, labeling, and timely processing.

Oversee lab workflow, including coordinating specimen collection, quality assurance, and equipment maintenance.

Train and mentor new and junior Medical Assistants on blood collection techniques, safety protocols, and department procedures.

Ensure compliance with CLIA, OSHA, and HIPAA standards in all lab-related activities.

Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies, placing orders as needed to ensure uninterrupted operations.

Escort patients to and from exam rooms, infusion suites, and physician offices.

Record patient data including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication updates.

Prepare examination and treatment rooms, sterilize instruments, and maintain infection control protocols.

Assist physicians and nurse practitioners with exams and minor procedures.

Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection with proficiency and confidence.

Administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections as directed.

Manage patient calls, prescription requests, and scheduling updates in coordination with front office staff.

Perform administrative duties including chart preparation, electronic documentation, filing, and faxing.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.

Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential required.

Current BCLS certification (or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire).

Minimum of 3–5 years of professional experience as a Medical Assistant (oncology/hematology or specialty practice preferred).

Demonstrated expertise in phlebotomy, specimen collection, and lab safety practices.

Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to train, mentor, and work collaboratively in a team-based environment.

Bilingual (Hindi/Urdu/Punjabi) strongly preferred.

Proven ability to manage time effectively and prioritize in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Physical Demands

Full range of body motion, including assisting with patient handling and lifting.

Manual and finger dexterity, and excellent eye-hand coordination.

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during the day.

Occasionally lift and carry items up to 40 lbs.

Corrected vision and hearing sufficient to meet essential job requirements.
