Marine Electrician I – Role
Continental Tide has a need for a Marine Electrician I who will be a key support to our Fleet Services Group. The location for this position is Norfolk, VA. The Marine Electrician will support shipboard operations by leveraging practical shipboard experience with HM&E systems and equipment.

Essential duties & responsibilities
- Practical shipboard experience with HM&E systems and equipment.
- Inspecting, repairing, installing, modifying, and maintaining electrical/electronic systems, circuits and equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose issues with shipboard electronic and electrical systems and equipment.
- Setting up, checking, and correcting operational and experimental electrical machinery, circuitry, and equipment while adhering to pre-established guidelines and engineering specifications.
- Interpret electrical schematics and installation drawings.
- Perform on-site field service for system grooms and checkouts, minor repairs and system configuration validation.
- Perform and/or verify mechanical alignments.
- Technical expertise with power and transmission equipment, and motorized valve actuators.
- Assembles multi-pin connectors and fiber optic connections.
Experience and Skills
- Must possess a high school, trade, or vocational school degree.
- 1-3 years of direct experience in ship repair and installation of Hull, Mechanical & Electrical (HM&E) systems and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret ship installation drawings, installation specifications and NAVSEA Standard Items.
- Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose issues with shipboard electronic and electrical systems and equipment.
- Technical expertise with power and transmission equipment, as well as motorized valve actuators.
- Familiarity with electrical schematics and installation drawings.
- Experience with NAVSEA cableway and connectorization practices.
- Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), fiber optics, and integrated network systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Desired Qualifications
- Certification in relevant areas is a plus.
Security Requirements
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance to access military facilities, naval shipyards, private shipyards, and Naval installations.
- Due to export control regulations, this role is open to U.S. only.
Travel Requirements
- Occasional Travel – up to 10% within and outside of the continental United States.
- If a position requires travel by domestic flight or access to secure federal facilities/military bases, the candidate must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate identification credentials, such as REAL ID.
Physical Requirements
- Exposure to open-air environments, including noisy, hot, and cold conditions.
- Required to visit project sites aboard ships and rigs, both onshore and offshore.
- Must wear various types of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hearing, eye, head, and hand protection, as required.
- Site visits may involve standing on a variety of surfaces and angles, bending, crouching, and climbing over obstructions such as scaffolding, ladders, and internal barge or boat structural components.
- Exposure to sound levels exceeding 100 decibels.
- Must possess sufficient visual acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and night vision to inspect marine components and systems, identify defects or irregularities, and safely operate tools and equipment.
- May work in confined spaces with limited ventilation.
- Requires prolonged periods of sedentary work, including sitting and/or standing.
- May be required to operate machinery, power tools, and/or heavy equipment.
- Must be able to communicate effectively to exchange and comprehend information.
- Frequent exposure to extreme weather conditions, including high heat and extreme cold.
- Must be able to lift and carry 30 lbs. or more, depending on task requirements.
