Job Summary
The UM Prior Authorization Nurse is responsible for reviewing referrals for medical services to assess medical necessity and recommended actions, utilizing independent judgment and clinical guidelines. This role collaborates with the Nursing Manager, VP of Clinical Policy, and Medical Director for utilization management and problem-solving.
Responsibilities / Job Duties
Review prior authorization referrals for medical necessity by exercising independent judgment and medical knowledge. Independently assess records to determine how patients meet service criteria. Ensure compliance with health plan, state, and clinical guidelines for decision-making. Develop clinical summaries for approval recommendations. Make decisions to approve service requests independently. Develop summaries for denial recommendations for further Medical Director review. Minimum Education and Experience Qualification Requirements
Education
Bachelor's or Associate Degree in Nursing (Bachelor's preferred). Current CA State licensure as a Licensed Vocation Nurse (LVN). Qualifications
At least 2 years of experience in a comparable position. Prior authorization or Managed Care experience preferred. Skills
Ownership and Dependability in achieving goals and objectives. Excellent attendance and dependability. Attention to detail in medical records and clinical guidelines. Professional business acumen and representation. Schedule / Shift
Training is fully on-site for several weeks (3-6 weeks estimated), and thereafter, it can be fully remote.
