Overview

The Nuclear Company is seeking an exceptional Cybersecurity Engineer to design, implement, and maintain advanced cybersecurity defenses across IT and operational technology (OT) environments, ensuring robust protection of critical assets in a highly regulated industry. This role reports to the VP, Software Engineering and focuses on securing both corporate IT systems and OT environments pivotal to nuclear energy operations.

Responsibilities

  • Cybersecurity Architecture & Design: Lead the design and implementation of secure architectures for IT and OT systems, including network segmentation, access control, intrusion detection/prevention, and data protection. Develop and implement security standards, policies, and guidelines tailored to the nuclear energy industry. Evaluate and recommend new security technologies and solutions to enhance defense capabilities.
  • Risk Management & Assessment: Conduct comprehensive cybersecurity risk assessments for IT and OT systems, identify vulnerabilities and threats. Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and controls in line with industry best practices and regulatory requirements (e.g., NRC, NIST, IEC 62443). Lead vulnerability management programs, including penetration testing and security audits.
  • Incident Response & Threat Intelligence: Contribute to cybersecurity incident response plans to enable rapid detection, containment, and recovery. Stay abreast of threats and attack vectors relevant to critical infrastructure and ICS. Develop and implement threat intelligence frameworks to counter emerging risks.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Audit: Ensure compliance with cybersecurity regulations and standards pertinent to the nuclear energy industry (e.g., 10 CFR Part 73, NERC CIP, NIST CSF). Prepare for and support regulatory audits, providing technical expertise and documentation. Translate complex regulatory requirements into actionable technical controls and processes.
  • Operational Technology (OT) Security: Specialize in securing ICS, SCADA, DCS, and other OT environments. Implement security solutions that preserve OT availability, integrity, and confidentiality without disrupting operations. Develop secure remote access solutions for OT networks.
  • Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Provide expert guidance to junior engineers and cross-functional teams. Lead complex security projects and initiatives to successful completion. Advocate for cybersecurity best practices across the organization.
  • Vendor Management: Evaluate and manage security vendors to ensure products and services meet security requirements.
  • Education And Experience: Bachelor’s degree in CS, Cybersecurity, or related field; Master’s degree preferred. 7+ years in cybersecurity with a focus on enterprise and OT security; 3+ years in nuclear or other highly regulated critical infrastructure. Deep expertise in NIST CSF, ISO 27001, NRC, NERC CIP, IEC 62443. Experience designing secure network architectures, access controls, and data protection for complex environments. Hands-on with SIEM, EDR, IDS/IPS, firewalls, and vulnerability scanners.
  • Skills: Application architecture, secure coding reviews, threat modeling; familiarity with modern development environments, containers, and CI/CD; cloud-native security; SAST/DAST/SCA tools; networking knowledge (HTTP, DNS, TCP/IP); ICS/OT security expertise; strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills; relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, GICSP, GRID, CCNA Cyber Ops); scripting/programming for automation (e.g., Python, PowerShell).

Estimated Starting Salary Range

The estimated starting salary range for this role is $135,000 - $175,000 annually, plus applicable withholdings and deductions, paid semi-monthly. Offers may vary based on experience, qualifications, tenure, skill set, location, certifications, and other criteria.
