SUMMARY
This position performs clerical and administrative duties for the English Department to provide efficient operations and represent the department in a professional manner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Support the English Department Serve as office manager (e.g. supply ordering) for the department Assist department chair in departmental work (maintaining financial spreadsheets, assisting with scheduling, etc.). Manage and maintain departmental websites with updated information using Dot CMS; oversee social media presence and departmental advertising With the department chair, recruit and hire qualified student assistants through Calvin Workday. Process student payroll. With the Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid, manage the application, awards, and donor follow-up processes for English Departments student scholarships. Provide administrative assistance to department members and departmental committees. Assist with departmental events such as colloquia, lectures, and receptions, as needed. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position may supervise one or more student assistants.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
A high-school diploma or general education degree (GED), an associate degree is highly preferred. 1-3 years office experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong organization, written and verbal communication, interpersonal and analytical skills required. Knowledge of computers and related software required. Supervisory experience and experience in academic administration helpful.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
This position requires the ability to greet callers and visitors, answer questions about the college, and employee good communication skills and tact. Proofread correspondence for spelling, grammar, and content errors. May occasionally handle some confidential information.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
• Technically savvy, with excellence in spreadsheet management as well as understanding/interest in website management/social media.
• Proven capacity and bandwidth for office work, strong initiative to anticipate needs and stay current in a fast-paced, changing environment.
• Vision for continuous improvement to streamline department workflow and improve workplace efficiencies.
