Kimley-Horn is seeking a motivated Electrical Engineer with 7+ years of experience in power system studies and utility-scale PV solar design to join our Power Delivery team in Portland, Oregon. This is a great opportunity for an engineer ready to take the next step in their career by contributing to technical delivery while collaborating with clients and growing in project leadership.
Position Overview
This role is focused on supporting the development, analysis, and design of renewable energy systems and interconnection solutions. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in power flow studies, short circuit analysis, grounding, and PV system layout and modeling.
Responsibilities
Perform electrical studies,including load flow, short circuit, grounding, arc flash,cable heating and ampacity,and protection coordination for utility-scale PV systems
Support the electrical design of PV solar and battery energy storage projects, including DC/AC layouts, inverter configurations, and interconnection points
Use modeling tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM,PVSyst, PSCAD) to develop and verify study results
Support interconnection applications and technical filings with utilities and ISOs/RTOs
Prepare one-line diagrams, equipment specifications, and coordination with physical and civil design teams
Contribute to technical reports and proposals for energy clients
Work within a collaborative, multi-discipline project team and communicate with clients and internal stakeholders
Assist in QA/QC of electrical deliverables and mentor junior engineers
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
Minimum 7 years of experience in electrical power systems engineering, including PV and power studies
Familiarity with utility interconnection standards, IEEE, and NEC codes
Proficient with power systems modeling software (e.g., ETAP, SKM,PVSyst, PSCAD, or similar)
Experience designing PV systems, MV collection, and grid interconnection preferred
Strong written and verbal communication skills
PE license preferred or in progress
