Position Summary Works under the general supervision of the community center supervisor. The maintenance custodian is responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of City-owned and leased buildings, including mechanical and electrical equipment and plumbing fixtures. The primary location of this position will be the community center. The maintenance custodian is also responsible for maintenance of the City's swimming pool.
Examples of Duties Government Buildings Maintains mechanical equipment. The equipment includes compressors, boilers, pumps and motors, pool filtration systems, chemical feed equipment, weight room equipment, pool maintenance equipment, and cleaning equipment. Performs required meeting room set ups at City Hall and Community Center complex. Performs general cleaning and trash haul-away throughout the buildings as needed. Performs minor carpentry work as needed throughout the buildings. Performs minor electrical duties, but only when it is determined that all power is off to the unit. Performs various plumbing tasks. Maintains all building fire extinguishers. Paints walls, floors, ceilings and equipment as needed. Neatly maintains storage areas. Maintains building components including windows, doors, door locks, baseboards, shelves, bathroom fixtures. Reports to the supervisor any equipment in need of further maintenance or professional service work. Prepares and implements preventative maintenance programs for City-owned buildings, including mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. Performs other work-related duties. Building Grounds
Mows lawns, trims trees, lays sod, maintains ½ acre pond and fountain, maintain 2.3 acres plaza west side of civic center complex. Maintains lawn sprinkler systems, plants trees or flowers, and picks weeds as determined by the maintenance supervisor. Swimming Pool
Maintains the community center pool. Analyzes the quality of the water to make determinations regarding chlorine feed, backwashing filters, pH, and temperature adjustments. Makes any adjustments necessary to keep the swimming pool water within given quality limits. Lighting Systems
Maintains lights throughout the buildings and grounds keeping all lighting systems functional. Safety
Implements safety programs for jobs required. Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience. Possession of a valid Minnesota Grade "C", Second Class, Boiler Engineer's License within six months of employment. Possession of a swimming pool operator's license or ability to obtain such license within six months of employment. Desired Qualifications
Three years maintenance custodial experience.
