Job Responsibilities
Reporting to the Nurse Manager, the Medical Office Assistant manages administrative, clinical, and clerical tasks in support of the Health Services team.
Collects, labels and prepares laboratory specimens for in-house analysis and/or shipment to outside laboratories. Properly documents laboratory test results and enters them on the appropriate charts. Handles and disposes sharps and biohazardous materials according to OSHA guidelines. Tracks and follows up on results from outside laboratories and files final reports in chart (paper or EHR, as appropriate). Maintains records of laboratory tests and results for daily, monthly and annual reports. Operates all clinical and laboratory instruments and equipment. Performs equipment maintenance checks and documents findings. Performs quality control of laboratory tests and documents findings. Performs required proficiencies for diagnostic laboratory tests and periodically reviews lab procedures with staff. Prepares and properly stores solutions, reagents, specimens and culture media. Monitors and orders laboratory supplies and follows up on any discrepancies. Greets and checks patients into the clinic using EHR system, ensuring students are eligible for clinic services. Explains available services, policies and procedures. Gathers basic patient history, performs medical reconciliation, and reviews allergies and records all information in the EHR. Performs other tasks required to ensure safe and effective clinical operations, as assigned. Minimum and Additional Requirements
High school diploma. Experience with electronic health records (EHR). Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant certification, National Certified Medical Assistant, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, or similar certification. Knowledge of outpatient medical procedures, equipment, and techniques. Knowledge of appropriate medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology. Skill in operating and maintaining various kinds of medical equipment, including a microscope, centrifuge, respiratory therapy equipment, adaptive and/or mobility equipment, and vision testing equipment. Skill in operating a sphygmomanometer, automatic blood pressure cuff, thermometers, pulse oximetry, timer, scales and other equipment to gather basic vital signs. Ability to obtain samples and perform laboratory tests. Ability to visually distinguish colors. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and understand and carry out detailed and moderately complex oral and written instructions. Ability to collect, compile and assemble data in a clear, concise manner and accurately enter data into computer programs. Ability to perform basic arithmetic. Ability to control the distribution of supplies, materials, and equipment and maintain inventory records. Good attention to detail and ability to maintain concentration, work under pressure, and meet deadlines. Basic computer skills and ability to master software required to perform job duties at a professional level. Ability to work independently and handle stressful situations in a professional manner. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, students, co-workers, faculty, staff, and the general public. Effective organizational, interpersonal and teaching skills. Preferred Qualifications
Two years of experience as a medical assistant. Current American Heart Association (AHA) certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers.

Annual Salary/Hiring Range:
$32,000 (0.75 FTE, 8/16-5/15 each year)
