Overview

Join to apply for the Custodian role at University of Utah. Red Butte Garden & Arboretum is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our custodial team. The ideal candidate will perform a variety of cleaning tasks to ensure a safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment for staff and guests, upholding standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and safety throughout the facility.

Responsibilities

• Sweeps, cleans, mops, scrubs and dusts floors.
• Cleans toilets, basins, showers, bathtubs, and scrubs walls; dusts, cleans and vacuums furniture, fixtures, doors and related furnishings using appropriate cleaning supplies.
• Operates and maintains electric floor machines, snow blowers, industrial vacuums, carpet shampooing equipment and upholstery shampooing equipment.
• Cleans, refinishes and maintains a variety of floor coverings.
• Labels and removes infectious waste bags and containers.
• Transports custodial supplies and equipment to and from storage and work areas.
• Replaces sharp containers, transports trash and refuse, removes empty boxes and organizes closets.
• Work Environment and Level of Frequency considerations may include office environment; exposure to hazards and physical requirements as stated in the position description.

Minimum Qualifications

This is an entry-level position. Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills are required. Six months of related experience is preferred. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferences

• Previous custodial or janitorial experience in a commercial, educational, or public setting.
• Must be available at least one morning during the weekend.
• Respectful and professional demeanor when interacting with staff and guests.

• Work Schedule Summary: Typically, a 6:00am to 2:30pm shift; with availability one morning during the weekend. Nights and weekend shifts may be required when Red Butte Garden events necessitate.
