Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- Performs highly complex (senior-level) custodial work in state hospital buildings and treatment units; provides housekeeping services in a clinical setting, including inspections of buildings and equipment.
- Orders and restocks supplies and equipment; provides backup to other custodians as needed; works under limited supervision with substantial initiative and independent judgment.
- Coordinates and performs cleaning, dusting, and disinfecting of restrooms, offices, treatment areas, patient rooms, and other hospital areas; ensures proper waste disposal.
- Maintains cleanliness to meet or exceed minimum standards for cleanliness, health, safety, and infection control; inspects buildings and ensures follow-up on identified issues.
- Assists the Custodian Manager in implementing the hospital safety and infection control program.
- Performs other duties as assigned, including participation in disaster response/COOP activation with possible alternate shift patterns or locations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques, dusting, sweeping, and mopping.
- Knowledge of stripping and waxing floors; cleaning and disinfecting restrooms and shower stalls.
- Knowledge of inventory control principles and methods.
- Skills in the use of custodial materials and chemicals, and in operating custodial equipment.
- Skills in the use and maintenance of building maintenance tools and equipment.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; stay on task and complete work timely.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; ability to stand/walk on hard floors for extended periods.
- Ability to work harmoniously with co-workers and patients; ability to work irregular hours.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications: None
- Initial Screening Criteria: One of the following is required: One year of custodial/housekeeping experience in a related setting OR eighteen (18) months of proven work experience.
- Additional Information: Applicants must pass fingerprint background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks; males 18-25 must register with Selective Service. Applicants must be at least 18; Waco Center for Youth applicants must be 21. Flexibility in work hours; may require overtime. Immunization policy compliance required.
