Travel Requirements: Occasional travel between schools, or between schools and central office, may be required.
Work Experience: Custodial experience required, preferably in a school setting. One year or more experience in the direction and supervision of custodial personnel is preferred.

CUSTODIAN I
Job Summary:
- To coordinate, monitor, direct and support the work of assigned custodial staff, to ensure the upkeep, cleanliness and safety of school buildings and grounds for students, staff and the community
- Ensure special requests for area of assignment are addressed effectively and promptly
- Evaluate areas of assignment at the end of each shift to ensure assigned areas of buildings and grounds are ready for their intended use
- Maintain the cleanliness of instructional areas, restrooms, cafeterias, locker rooms, and all other areas, including maintenance of grounds
- Assist with planning and organizing custodial work in area of assignment
- Confers with principal and appropriate district personnel serving areas of assignment on custodial concerns
- Communicates with other custodians of other shifts to coordinate and address immediate and upcoming needs
- Sets custodial priorities for area of assignment and directs assigned staff
- Maintains proper work-related communication between employees
- Maintains equipment and supply inventories
- Addresses or notifies appropriate personnel of equipment failure, missing equipment, needed repairs or building maintenance concerns
- Tests and evaluates new products and makes recommendations regarding their use
- Complies with requirements and procedures for use, storage and disposal of waste, cleaners, chemicals and other materials used in performing required duties
- Maintains school buildings, ensuring a clean and orderly condition by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing and vacuuming classrooms, library, hallways, stairs, cafeteria, gymnasium and office spaces
- Cleans furniture, whiteboards, blackboards, glass, windowsills
- Empties wastebaskets and recycling receptacles, replaces supplies as needed
- Thoroughly cleans and disinfects water fountains, restrooms, showers and locker rooms
- Stocks paper towels and toilet paper and removes graffiti
- Assists with maintenance projects as needed
- Performs minor maintenance repairs and/or upkeep of painting, replacing light bulbs, air conditioner filters and other maintenance-related duties
- Provides building access to groups for scheduled activities, secures building when the activity is completed
- Maintains the security of all school district buildings, property and grounds
- Removes leaves, snow and spreads ice melt
- Performs custodial duties, as assigned
- Responds to emergency situations, vandalism, power failure and storm and water pipe failures
- Maintains tools, equipment and work space and job site in a clean and orderly manner
- Unloads materials, supplies and equipment when received
- Performs routine maintainenance, replacing burned out light bulbs, plumbing and repairs in rooms and halls
- Complies with district policy, local, state and federal laws and procedures for the use, storage and disposal of waste, cleaners, chemicals and all other materials used in performing duties
- Performs in accordance with school policy, regulations, state and federal laws
- Performs other duties assigned by the Supervisor or Superintendent
