We are looking for an Adjunct Welding Instructor to join our team at Indian River State College, contributing to classroom instruction and hands-on lab training.

We seek a candidate with a minimum of a high school diploma; an associate degree or higher in a related field is preferred. Extensive welding experience, welding certifications, and credentialing for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) are required, along with proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Teach in both Classroom and Lab Environments: Deliver lectures and practical demonstrations in welding techniques.
  • Demonstrate Welding Techniques: Showcase welding processes, safety protocols, and best practices with real-world examples.
  • Participate in the Welding Advisory Committee: Collaborate with industry professionals, faculty, and stakeholders and contribute to program development.
  • Maintain a safe learning environment in the welding lab at all times.
  • Recommend purchases for welding activities.
  • Oversee equipment repairs and monitor materials and supplies for lab and classroom activities.
  • Assist with scheduling of welding classes and recruit students for the welding program.
  • Oversee the welding classroom and lab facilities and supervise lab assistants.
  • Use all grading, retention, and Learning Management systems (Angel) in place at IRSC.
  • Participate with the Welding Advisory Committee.
  • Construct and deliver classroom lectures and demonstrate welding techniques and procedures.
  • Ensure safe welding practices at all times and recruit students.
  • Maintain supplies, equipment, and materials for the welding classroom and lab, with input from the Department Chair of Applied Technology.
  • Report malfunctions or breakage of equipment to the proper staff and construct class syllabi.
  • Use Angel or other Learning Management System used by IRSC and maintain student files and grades in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain student attendance records and manage lab tools and equipment to minimize theft and breakage.
  • Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills

  • Possess a high school diploma, with associate degree or higher in a related field preferred.
  • Possess extensive welding experience and verified training or classroom experience.
  • Possess welding certifications and demonstrated ability in welding with knowledge of techniques and equipment.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • All instructors must meet the credentialing requirements for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to sit and stand for extended periods, present oral lectures/demonstrations, walk, bend, lift, reach, stoop, and occasionally lift items in excess of 25 pounds. Some lifting of computer and electronic equipment may be required. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines. IRSC expects employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.

Compensation and Application

The hourly rate for this position starts at $18.20/hour. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience and education. Open until filled.
