Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade. A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations.

Nature of Work

The Adapted Sports Coordinator performs skilled recreation work in directing adapted sports related activities for special populations. Examples of special populations include adults and/or children with hearing and visual impairments, mental and physical disabilities, and individuals with Parkinson's disease, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, autism, and spinal cord injuries. Work of this class involves the responsibility for planning and directing tournaments, supervising, and carrying out leisure activities and programs such as adapted sports and all outdoor adventure recreation. The coordinator recruits new participants; plans and implements tournaments; oversees, plans, and implements the adapted individual and team sports programs; organizes activities for after school programs, outdoor programs and activities; supervises adapted sports and equestrian staff; oversees the annual adapted sports budget; conducts fundraising activities; and contributes to the department objectives by accepting additional assignments and performing other duties. Employees in this classification report to the Assistant Therapeutic Recreation Center Director.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in therapeutic recreation and one (1) year of experience working with adapted sports programs. NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Should possess a valid Alabama driver's license in order to operate transportation for participants. A commercial driver's license (CDL) must be obtained within six (6) months of employment in order to operate transportation requiring position of a CDL. The incumbent will also be expected to obtain first aid and CPR certifications after hire.

Kind of Examination
