JOB SUMMARY AND PURPOSE

The Lead Custodian performs and oversees daily janitorial duties, and immediate minor repairs to the facility, supervision of custodial team through preparation of work schedule, time clock accountability, instruction of work, inspection of work, and education/hands on instruction of proper job duty techniques. Assists Program Staff in set-up and tear down for special events / classroom instruction.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintains the interior and exterior of the facilities, including building, parking lot and grounds, in good condition

Supervises all tasks needed to maintain cleanliness, sanitation and safety of the facility,

Performs or directs minor repairs that might include the following: Carpentry, Plumbing, Interior painting, Refurbishing and cleaning, Landscape and irrigation systems.

Oversees completion of daily maintenance checklist provided to subordinates; Assures tools and supplies are stocked and appropriately secured in vehicles as well as in maintenance store rooms; maintains cleanliness and order of store rooms; performs regular inventory of cleaning supplies and minor repair items.

Checks facility daily for any safety concerns; understands local and building safety codes and requirements as well as OSHA, health department and EPA requirements; reports all deficiencies to shelter management

Coordinates project duties, event set up, and break down with Program Staff (Shelter Coordinator, Job Developer, Activities Specialist, et cetera).

With Maintenance Department, plans and schedules facility maintenance, including major repairs

Drives company vehicle to restock supplies and supervise two locations

Other duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Oversees daily janitorial work, checks facilities for maintenance and safety issues.

Sets schedule for custodial staff, creates checklists, oversees performance and training of custodial staff

Supervises or performs minor repairs, reports deficiencies to management

Coordinates with maintenance teams as required

Event set-up

Ensures inventory of tools and supplies current

Other duties as required and is subject to change at any time.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications

EDUCATION:

High school diploma (or GED/High School Equivalence Certificate)

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 1 year of custodial experience

Prior experience as a supervisor

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Custodial or building maintenance experience in a school setting preferred

Ability to read and write instructions in English preferred

Background in construction trades a plus

Proven familiarity with homelessness and related issues a plus
