Job description, duties, and responsibilities :

Dental Assistant Duties and Responsibilities:

The Dental Assistant is responsible for general administrative work and maintenance in the dental clinic, as well as completing laboratory work under the direction of the dentist. The Dental Assistant’s primary responsibility is to prepare the examination rooms for appointments by sterilizing instruments and ensuring all necessary equipment is ready for the dentist. They also assist the dentist during their procedures by handing them instruments and anticipating their needs throughout the appointment. The Dental Assistant may also be responsible for greeting patients as they arrive, submitting billing details to the insurance company, and scheduling the patient’s next appointment before they leave the clinic. Other duties and responsibilities include:

  • Update and maintain the client’s dental records
  • Perform routine dental cleanings and assist the dentist with complex dental procedures
  • Take and process X-rays of patients
  • Schedule patient appointments and follow up with patients.
  • Take billing and insurance details from patients
  • Advise patients on recommended oral hygiene
  • Enter the off-site patient data into EMR and create an Excel sheet.
  • Offsite oral screening camps, if any, from the CAHEP organization.
  • Answer the clinic's voice message calls and schedule patients accordingly.
  • Maintain the patient consent forms and treatment consents as per the procedures assigned by the Dentist and Dental Hygienist, and take signatures from patients as needed.
  • Maintain up-to-date dental and dental hygienist guidelines and policies in the dental office as per the Colorado state dental board standards.
  • Knowledge of dental incident reports during dental treatment
  • Sanitize the dental chairs before and after the dental procedures.
  • Blood-borne diseases or systemic diseases and allergies are assigned in red tag in the treatment consent paper or EMR chart to familiarize the provider.
  • A biweekly water test and spore test is required and follows the guidelines of the manufacturer.
  • Daily suction of the chairs and for the extraction procedures immediately after the procedure is rendered to reduce the clog in the suction pipes.
  • Community grants application for the CAHEP organization.
  • Knowledge of a Spanish interpreter for the patient for dental services.
  • Maintain the emergency dental kit in the dental office and guidelines.
  • Maintain volunteer hours in the paper or web portal to track hours.
  • Maintain patient clinical notes in the EMR.
