JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Nursing in Training (DNT) is responsible for completing leadership and development training with the expectation that information obtained throughout the DNT Academy will be fully implemented during the Center internship. This individual will co-lead, guide and manage a team of licensed nurses and certified nursing assistants to ensure that nursing services are provided to patients in a competent, professional and compassionate manner. The DNT will work with the Director of Nursing and the DNT Program Coordinator to complete required assignments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
:
Reviews 24-hour report to identify risk elements, report findings and action steps to the DON. Collaborates with the DON to ensure nursing employees follow policies and procedures. Collaborate with DON to ensures nursing employees understand and follow responsibilities defined in their job description. Observes and participates in the clinical meeting as directed by the DON. Observes and participates in the Center's Risk meeting. Conduct clinical patient care rounds daily. Attend and participate in the weekly QI/QM meeting. Conducts at least one complete skin audit for all patients. Review pharmacy services that includes but is not limited to: Review high cost medications Review medications located in the STAT/e-boxes, and make recommendations accordingly. Educate licensed nurses regarding the use of the STAT and e-boxes. Review drug diversion/medication error process with the DON. Review destruction of medications with DON. Audit 2 systems per week utilizing the systems worksheet, report finding to DON. Review and participate in investigations related to allegations of abuse, service concerns with service recovery action steps implemented. Observe and participate in corrective action processes with nursing managers and/or DON. Collaborate with DON to understand the scheduling process. Perform at least one new patient admission, patient discharge utilizing the EHR system. Complete a weekly summary report regarding the activities and experiences throughout the week. Submit report to the DNT Coordinator, DON, and Chief Clinical Officer. Collaborates with the DON in recommending to the administrator resources needed to carry out nursing activities, including but not limited to clinical equipment and supplies and the number and level of nursing personnel to be employed. Collaborates and participates with the DON in the employment of nursing personnel, including recruitment, retention, hiring, orientation, in-service education, supervision, evaluation, and termination of nursing employees. Collaborates and participates with the DON to develop a professional working relationship with the Medical Director and other medical providers in the Center. Works collaboratively with the DON and other nurses to ensures a comprehensive plan of care is developed and implemented in tandem with the interdisciplinary team. Ensures patients are assessed and plan of care revised timely. Collaborates with the DON to coordinate nursing services with other services such as medical, rehabilitative, social services and activities. Collaborate with the DON to ensure the role of the person identified as the center's Education Coordinator are fully implemented, such as the Nursing Department Orientation, and needed in-service programs are developed and offered. Observes and conducts nursing employee meetings with nursing employees on all shifts as directed by the DON. In tandem with the DON maintains compliance with state and federal regulation and company policies and procedures. Works with the DON and Administrator to develop a Plan of Correction for any identified survey deficiencies related to the nursing department and will ensure that the Plan of Correction is fully implemented. Works with the DON to administers and evaluates nursing service programs to maintain standards of patient care. Develops effective relationships with other departments to ensure that the nursing programs are properly planned and maintained to meet the needs of the patient. Protects patients' rights to ensure fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, dignity, civil rights, and safety. Works with the HR department to ensure the primary source of verification of all licensed and certified nursing employees is current and meets state and federal regulations. Collaborates with the DON and scheduler to ensure an adequate number of trained, competent nursing employees are scheduled twenty-four hours a day. Assists the DON to ensure nursing hours are posted daily according to federal regulations. Assists the DON to counsel and/or discipline nursing employees when indicated and ensures necessary documentation is completed and maintained. Assists the DON and other nursing managers to evaluates job performance of nursing employees. Demonstrates and ensures customer service standards are being met when interacting with employees, patients, visitors, and the general public. In collaboration with the Infection Preventionist or designee ensures infection prevention and control program and employee health policies are implemented. Promotes and maintains a positive working relationship with physicians/physician extenders and providers of lab, pharmacy, and therapy services to ensure safe care of patients. Observes and participates in quality assurance committees:
Care Planning Infection Prevention and Control Risk, Utilization Review, Pharmacy, and Safety.
Collaborates with DON regarding how to effectively manage the budget for the nursing department, medical supplies, and equipment. Works to resolve problems that arise, such as errors in judgment, inappropriate or wasteful use of supplies. Practices and ensures compliance with the center's Safety Program, including back safety and fire safety. Routinely observe medication administration practices to validate licensed nurses are following current standards of nursing practice. Performs other duties, as assigned.
