SUMMARY

The Southern Queens Parks Association is looking for dynamic individuals to join the team as Group Leaders at the P.S. 35Q Nathaniel Woodhull School COMPASS program. The Comprehensive Afterschool System (COMPASS) of NYC program serves young people enrolled in grades K-5. SONYC, which stands for School's Out NYC, is the COMPASS' middle school model that serves as a pathway to success for youth in 6th, 7th and 8th grades. Structured like clubs, the model offers youth choice in how they spend their time; provides rigorous instruction in sports, arts and youth leadership. NYC becomes the classroom through trips and opportunities for instruction beyond the traditional facilities. Programs are offered 5 days per week during the school year. Services are also offered during the summer months. This specific outreach operates under the SQPA umbrella through use of its facilities, programming and thought leaders.

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Group Leader to support students (grades K-8) in homework assistance, academic instruction, and enrichment activities. In this role, you'll work with small student groups in core subjects-English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies-and assist with physical education, visual arts, and performing arts activities.

Key Responsibilities • Provides general supervision of students during program operating times and ensures that the participants are always safe; Keep all activities, equipment, and facilities clean, sanitized, safe, and in working order. • Provides children with a learning environment that will help them develop socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally in a manner appropriate to their age and stage of development. • Provides positive feedback on the students' progress and encourages students continued progress towards academic excellence and accountability. • Escorts students from one activity to another in an orderly manner

Presents themselves as a role model for student participants, at all times. • Plans curriculum and develops activity plans in collaboration with the educational specialist or other identified staff. • Understands, articulates, and utilizes the DYCD core competencies in conjunction with instruction and planning. • Participates in program evaluation processes; completes staff satisfaction surveys. Reviews and understands site visit tools. • Attends mandatory staff program training, meetings, and case conferences. • Provide supervision, direction and feedback to program youth, support staff, interns, and volunteers. • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others. • Maintains regular open communication with parents, staff, and direct supervisors; Report any incidents and concerns to the assistant site program director and site program director. • Keep daily records of all inspections, uses, participants, and incidents for equipment and facilities. • Perform other projects assigned at the discretion of the assistant site program director and site program director.

Essential Functions: • Implement the After School curriculum, helping scholars to improve literacy competencies, values and physical fitness in an activity based after school environment. • Ensure the health, safety and well-being of scholars in the program by providing close supervision of all activities • Maintain accurate program documentation (incident reports, accident report, behavior logs, attendance & sign-in/sign-out sheets) • Assist scholars with homework • Plan and create innovative age-appropriate activities and develop lesson plans to conduct them on a daily basis • Provide support to any Activity Specialist in implementing activities • Adhere to all DOH& DYCD Standards

Location: P.S. 35Q Nathaniel Woodhull School - Jamaica, Queens Job Type: Part-time (In-Person) Compensation: $17 per hour Hours: Approximately 15-20 per week

Schedule

15-20 hours per week Includes 13 full program days during the academic year (7-8-hour shifts on these days)
