The CUNY School of Medicine (CUNY SoM) located in the heart of Harlem, New York, is the only medical school in the City University of New York system and the only public medical school in Manhattan. Building upon 50 years of success as the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, the institution transitioned to the CUNY School of Medicine (SoM) in 2016. The CUNY SoM offers an accelerated BS/MD degree (7-year program) and a Physician Assistant Master's Degree (27 months program). True to its legacy of access, opportunity, and community transformation, the medical school's mission remains to recruit highly talented students as diverse as New York City itself. CUNY SoM places a special emphasis on training high quality, culturally competent health professionals and scientists equipped to address the healthcare needs of New York's medically under-served communities. As a major priority, CUNY SoM also seeks to enhance the recruitment and retention of senior leadership, faculty, and staff to more closely reflect the diversity of our student body.
The Department of Medical Education is currently seeking a dedicated Clinical Professor to join our team. This pivotal position offers the successful candidate an opportunity to engage deeply with medical, physician assistant, and graduate education programs. As core pre-clerkship faculty, the appointee will not only lead interdisciplinary teaching initiatives but also direct the physician assistant physiology course and contribute to graduate-level education. A dedication to personalized mentorship, working with students requiring additional academic support, is essential.
In this full-time, non-tenure track role, the Clinical Professor will be instrumental in both the development and enhancement of the physiology curriculum.
Responsibilities include:
Delivering interactive lectures and leading small group sessions that employ a variety of teaching methods, including problem-based learning, team-based learning. The role extends to teaching responsibilities within the physician assistant program and CCNY's graduate courses. Maintain course content and materials that align with CUNYMed standards Evaluate student performance Participate in assessments Provide strategic support for underperforming students. Work collaboratively with faculty and academic committees on curriculum mapping, scheduling, and review. Engage with collaborative and mentored medical education scholarship. QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate must hold a PhD in physiology or a closely related field, underpinned by a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Essential to this role is a proven record of professional achievements, scholarly activity in the domain of medical education, and the ability to work effectively within a diverse community.
PREFERRED:
Minimum of five years of teaching experience at the tertiary (university/college) level Demonstrated proficiency in innovative teaching methodologies, such aS Team-based learning, Case-based learning, and Problem-based learning Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to guide and inspire others Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships across culturally diverse groups Excellent organizational skills with a flexible, creative, and innovative approach to problem-solving and challenges
COMPENSATION
Salary Range: $125,000 - $170,363
Salary commensurate with education and experience.
