Maintenance employees on a 3-week rotating schedule -

1 weekend days, 1 weekend nights , 1 weekend off.

Scheudules require nights, weekends & holidays

Overview:

Contribute to Sterling Steel safely producing high quality products at the lowest cost by repairing machines & structures throughout the plant, fabricating and/or installing mechanical items when necessary and completing scheduled maintenance as to prevent future failures.

Responsibilities & Duties:

Inspect mechanical equipment for operating conditions and determine need for maintenance or repair. Trouble shoots and determines course of repairs required

Dismantle, repair, and assemble mechanical equipment such as gears, bearings (Babbitt and scrape bearings), shafts, cables, belts, etc.

Calibrate or operate various diagnostic instruments to collect/analyze/interpret equipment operational data

Develop and perform equipment inspection routes; collect and document findings

Perform equipment failure analysis and recommend potential corrective actions

Receive and review schedule of equipment to be diagnosed or inspected

Create hand sketches, when necessary, of machine parts, showing shape and dimension

Operate power tools such as electric and pneumatic drills, grinders, power saws, etc.

Operate oxy-acetylene torch or electric welder on a variety of construction or repair welds

Operate remote controlled cranes and mobile equipment

Analyze and interpret data, recommend adjustments or corrections where required

Prepare analyses and reports, and record data

Read and interpret assembly drawings when necessary

Determine the best way to make repairs to minimize interruption of production

Plan work on the job alone and with other mechanics

Advise when immediate shut-down of equipment is necessary to minimize damage or when temporarily continued operation will have no harmful effect

Communicate and coordinate with employees, supervisors and managers

Provide direction to production employees when they are assisting with Mechanical tasks

Carry out Supervisors’ orders in connection with operating practice, effective performance, etc.

Communicate with Crane Operators using standard crane signals

Accurately report and record equipment history data for CMMS system

Complete paper copy of work orders

Maintain daily activity logs, maintenance records concerning assigned service vehicle and equipment

Perform housekeeping in areas of repair work and in shops

Report to work as scheduled

Follow all related SJPs

Adhere to all Policies and Work Rules

Comply with all SSC Safety rules; including Lock Out/Tag compliance

Complete all other duties as assigned

Experience/Education/Skill/Knowledge:

3+ years maintenance mechanic related experience; preferably in similar heavy manufacturing setting

Ability to effectively read, write, understand, and otherwise communicate in English is required for this position

Working knowledge of welding and cutting various metals

Familiar with uses and application of all types of fits such as press fits and running fits.

Ability to read and understand blueprints

Knowledge of Crane signals

Knowledge of and proficient at using alignment and inspection tools

Basic computer skills

Ability to work effectively alone or with other employees, with or without direct supervision

Physical Demands:

Able to work in extreme temperatures (hot & cold) while wearing required PPE

Willing and able to learn, retain and apply new information

Mobility to move to any area of assigned location (Rod Mill and/or Melt Shop)

Strength and stamina to remain on feet for majority of 12-hour shifts

Able to use required PPE

Walk up and down stairs safely

Climb ladders and on catwalks, using safety harness

Safely maneuver to positions required to inspect and repair Overhead Cranes

Lift up to 50 pounds occasionally

Carry up to 25 pounds without assistance

Effective Written and Verbal communication skills

Strong basic computer skills including dexterity to type on keyboard

Supply own basic tools (list available in HR)
