Overview
Emergency Department Registered Nurses provide care for patients of all ages and acuity. Patients present to the Emergency Department with a wide variety and/or combination of illnesses and injuries at varying and unpredictable paces. The ED census, acuity, and surges demand continuous prioritization of both patients and nursing interventions by the Registered Nurse to maintain safe and efficient care.
Job Summary
Registered Nurses deliver care to patients utilizing the nursing process. Nurses collaborate with other professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes. Nurses interact with patients and significant others while upholding the standards of professional nursing. Registered Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles. Due to the broad range of medical conditions they encounter, they must be well-versed in a large variety of health conditions. Registered Nurses have a professional obligation to participate in committee activities, surveys, and improvement initiatives and must uphold the standards of the Texas Nurse Practice Act.
Job Requirements
- Minimum Education: Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing (Diploma, AD)
- Minimum Work Experience: No previous experience
- Required Licenses/Certifications: Registered Nurse; ACLS (prior to completion of unit orientation); TNCC (within 18 months of hire); ENPC and/or PALS (prior to completion of unit orientation); CPR-BCLS; NIHSS (prior to completion of unit orientation)
- Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Self-Initiative (active contributor to ED flow and throughput); Sense of Urgency (provide safe, fast, effective care regardless of acuity or census); Adaptability (constant adjustment to meet acuity and volume intensity and situational adaptation); Professional appearance and decorum at all times (ED is the ‘front door’ to the hospital); Ability to handle confidential information
