Description An exciting opportunity awaits at the City of Cypress! The City Clerk office is accepting applications for the position of Deputy City Clerk until October 17.
The ideal candidate is a motivated and detail-oriented professional who brings leadership in city clerk functions such as public records management, agenda preparation, and municipal elections. An effective communicator and collaborator, this individual builds strong working relationships, supports organizational goals, and applies sound judgement in navigating municipal codes, election laws, and other regulatory requirements. Example of Duties
Assist in the preparation, compilation and publication of City Council agendas and agenda packets. Attends City Council meetings as required; transcribes the minutes of City Council meetings for final preparation. Assist in maintaining the City's records management program. Assist the City Clerk in the planning and conduct of periodic City elections. Handle confidential or sensitive matters with tact and discretion. Accept and respond to public records act requests. Prepare correspondence, memoranda, resolutions, ordinances and public notices. Provide customer service and assistance to the public. Proofread and/or correct documents for completeness and/or spelling, grammatical or punctuation accuracy. Copy, scan, collate, and staple a variety of materials. Perform other related duties as required. Typical Qualifications
Experience and Education
Four (4) years of increasingly responsible administrative support experience, preferably in a City Clerk's office. A high school diploma or G.E.D. Ability to type 70 wpm. Certification as a Notary Public in the State of California within six (6) months of appointment is required. Expectations Establish and maintain effective working relationships and work cooperatively with City staff, elected officials, other agencies and the community; deliver outstanding internal and external customer service; communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with the public and fellow employees; solve problems and support the City's mission, policy, goals and objectives. A resume is required . Failure to submit an attached resume, along with an online application, will result in disqualification from the selection process. Paid Vacation - All full-time employees accrue 80 vacation hours per year, up to a maximum of 160 hours at eleven years of employment.
Sick Leave - Eight hours per month are accrued by full-time employees for sick leave. There is unlimited accumulation, and the City has an annual payoff plan for unused sick leave, plus a payoff plan upon termination.
Holidays - 11 holidays per year plus 9 hours of floating holiday.
Tuition Reimbursement - $1,500 per fiscal year.
Health Insurance - The City pays 100% of the employee's group insurance premium, which includes medical, dental, vision, life, long and short term disability. Dependent/ additional benefits are available, a portion of which is paid by the City.
Retirement - Cypress is a member of the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). Employees hired prior to 7/1/10 are responsible for paying 3% of the Employee Contribution. Employees hired after 7/1/10 are responsible for paying 6% of the Employee Contribution. The plan includes the following options: 2% at 55, one year highest compensation, 1959 survivor's benefit and post retirement survivor continuance. Cypress is not a member of the Social Security System.
For candidates not currently employed by a CalPERS Agency or exceeding six months of separation, retirement benefits offered will conform to the California Public Employees' Pension Reform Act (PEPRA) after a January 1, 2013 date of hire.
Retirement Health Savings Plan - $125 monthly contribution.
Deferred Compensation - A voluntary program is also available.
