This is an Internal Employment Opportunity.
The College of Engineering is seeking an Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. This is a part-time (0.70 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position. The College of Engineering invites applicants for the position of Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (ADAA). This is an internal search open only to current Oregon State University employees.
We are seeking a visionary leader and experienced academic who demonstrates strong commitment to faculty development and mentoring, teaching excellence, and innovation in graduate education. The successful candidate will play a key leadership role in fostering academic growth and maintaining a culture of excellence across the College.
The ADAA is a member of the College Leadership Team, working closely with the Executive Associate Dean, fellow college leaders, unit heads, faculty, and staff to advance the education and community goals within the College. The position is responsible for participating in the effective implementation of the strategic plan. The ADAA provides input on the College vision, direction, and coordination of graduate academic programs and faculty advancement.
Primary responsibilities include working with faculty to facilitate graduate curriculum development; helping graduate students develop pathways to success; recruiting graduate students; serving as liaison with other offices on campus related to graduate student academic programs; serving as the point person on graduate academic integrity matters; supporting graduate student professional development; and representing the College on various committees and programs, including championing the College's holistic admissions efforts..
This position is a 12-month appointment, 0.7 FTE (negotiable), funded through the College, and open to current faculty within the College of Engineering who carry the rank of Full Professor with Tenure.
This position serves at the pleasure of the Dean. The expectation is that this is a five-year term, reviewed annually.

Key Responsibilities
Active support and advancement of University and College inclusive excellence are fundamentally embedded into all of the Associate Dean's activities, both as a responsibility and an expectation.
50%- Leadership, Administration, and Coordination of Graduate Programs:
Graduate Programs Lead in the development and revision of policies and procedures as they relate to the education, admission, mentoring and retention of high-quality graduate students. Assist Unit leadership (School Heads and delegates) with identifying and developing new programs or organizational structures to support the College's goals. Assist programs in recruitment and marketing activities through Slate and in-person activities. Assist units in preparation of required graduate program reviews. Ensure CoE Interdisciplinary Graduate Programs (IDGP) are maintained effectively across the College and University. Facilitate communication across units and programs. Ensure that the College is appropriately represented on university graduate-related committees. Monitor program sizes, admissions practices and graduate student progression. Review curriculum proposals. Review and approve graduate faculty nominations for the COE. Graduate Students
Identify pathways to success for at-risk students facing challenging situations related to, e.g., conflict in their committee/programs, financial support, immigration status. Organize college-wide professional development and community-building activities. Work with faculty and programs to facilitate and support graduate student success. Promote graduate student stories through events such as the Graduate Showcase. Oversee the degree-culminating experience for M.H.P. and M.Eng. students. Serve as COE's Achievement Rewards for College Scientists Foundation (ARCS) Foundation Scholar Awards, including managing reports and site visits. Help drive general and BIPOC recruiting efforts including being OSU's Graduate Education for Minorities (GEM) representative. Help programs secure waivers for graduate fellows; manage nomination and allocation of Provost's, ARCS and other Fellowship allocations for the College. Graduate Employees
Coordinate training for graduate teaching assistants. Oversee assessment processes, graduate appointment processes, and compliance with collective bargaining policies. 40%- Leadership, Administration and Coordination of Faculty and Staff Advancement
Faculty promotion and tenure
Summarize tenure and promotion cases for Dean's review. Identify and recommend CoE leadership training for faculty, school leadership, and faculty status committees, and facilitate delivery. Coordinate and ensure equity in promotion and tenure practices across the college. Support and provide guidance to individual faculty seeking promotion and tenure. Develop, coordinate, and promote CoE employee development.
Recognize faculty and staff through the facilitation and encouragement of college, university, and external awards nominations. Lead the coordination of CoE celebrate excellence awards. Lead the coordination of new employee onboarding workshops. Oversee college-wide training and community-building activities. Work with school leads and their respective faculty or staff to develop an appropriate balance among the individuals' position description duties as needed. Review and approve courtesy faculty appointments. Consult with faculty and staff on an individual basis as needed to address individual conflicts that may arise. Work with the Executive Associate Dean, and other required key leadership to coordinate appropriate resolution. 10%- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Associate Dean
What You Will Need
A doctoral degree in engineering or a closely related discipline. Tenured Full Professor in the College of Engineering at OSU by the time of appointment. Evidence of mentoring excellence, scholarly contributions, effective communication skills, and successful supervision of graduate students. Experience with mediation and negotiating skills, including navigation of complex interpersonal interactions and organizations. Demonstrated record of advancing inclusion excellence across different demographic groups through teaching, research, outreach, advising, and/or service within a university community, or a societal or professional context. This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
