Swedish The Endoscopy Technician is a multi-task position that schedules procedures, performs computer data entry for PH studies, and assists in the procedure room. The Technician is responsible for all task-based Gastroenterology activities, including cleaning and disinfecting scopes, preparing equipment for sterilization, preparing scopes for repair and tracking repair, procedure room setup, maintaining disinfection logs, and maintaining supplies for procedure rooms, dirty utility room, and clean utility room. The technician assists the nurse with patient admission to the procedure room and has basic knowledge to troubleshoot equipment problems. The Endoscopy Technician demonstrates knowledge of aseptic techniques and participates in quality assurance activities related to infection control and disinfection/sterilization of endoscopic equipment. The technician complies with all department policies and procedures and may fulfill varying weekend and weeknight call coverage. The Endoscopy Technician is responsible for scheduling procedures, data entry for PH studies, and assisting in the procedure room. Tasks include endoscopy-related activities such as: cleaning and disinfecting scopes, preparing equipment for sterilization, preparing scopes for repair, tracking repairs, setting up procedure rooms, maintaining disinfection logs, supplying procedure rooms and related areas, supporting the dirty and clean utility rooms, and assisting the nurse with patient admission to the procedure room. The technician should have basic knowledge to troubleshoot equipment problems and comply with aseptic techniques and infection control standards. The role requires flexibility with weekend and weeknight call coverage and providing coverage across Swedish campuses as needed. May occasionally work overtime. Qualifications

Coursework/Training Completion of a Surgical Technology, Anesthesia Technologist, Certified Nurse Assistant or Medical Assistant program. Upon hire: Washington Medical Assistant Certification --or-- Washington Nursing Assistant Certification License --or-- Washington Surgical Technologist Registration Upon hire: National Provider BLS - American Heart Association Within 1 year of hire: National Certified Endoscope Reprocessor - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association --or-- National Flexible Endoscope Reprocessors - Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution One year of experience (within 3 years of assuming the position) in a medical setting as a Surgical Technologist, Anesthesia Technologist, Nursing Assistant Certification or Certified Medical Assistant required. Completion of 12 months of full-time employment or equivalent part-time hours processing flexible endoscopes preferred. Knowledge of infection control procedures including PPE, Blood Borne Pathogens, biohazard waste removal. Knowledge of microorganisms and disease transmission; cross-contamination prevention; anatomy and physiology related to GI and pulmonary systems preferred. Knowledge of scopes and accessories for endoscopic procedures, handling and cleaning of scopes and accessories, and reprocessing of scopes/accessories preferred. Technical experience in scheduling procedures, data entry for PH studies, and assisting in the procedure room. Basic computer skills (data entry) required. Ability to read, write, and understand English; basic math aptitude; and knowledge of units of measurement. Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals related to cleaning methods and equipment for flexible scopes/accessories. Ability to present information in small group settings and to recognize malfunctions of instruments and equipment and determine corrective actions.
