Position Summary
The Director of Security is responsible for overseeing Seattle Kraken team, administrative office and training facility security. The position will oversee team travel and physical security, building security & access control systems, organizational emergency preparedness, investigations and threat assessments, and incident response. This role ensures the safety of NHL players, administrative & executive staff, facility patrons, visitors, facility tenants and physical assets while maintaining a secure and welcoming environment that supports high-performance professional team operations and a heavily used community ice rink complex that runs 7-days a-week, 19-hours a day.
Responsibilities
- Security Operations Management: Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive security protocols for the facility.
- Security Operations Management: Supervise and schedule security personnel, ensuring opening-hours coverage and rapid response capabilities.
- Security Operations Management: Monitor surveillance systems, access control points, and perimeter security.
- Security Operations Management: Work closely with Simon Property Group and its security team
- Security Operations Management: Develop and maintain communication with SPD’s North Precinct to include involvement with its Precinct Advisory Council.
- Security Operations Management: Partner with the WA State Fusion Center, Seattle Shield, and other partners.
- Event & Visitor Security: Oversee player security protocols for fan & media events and engagements.
- Event & Visitor Security: Oversee credentialing and building access for staff, vendors, contractors, and guests.
- Emergency Preparedness: Lead facility emergency response planning, including fire, medical, and evacuation procedures.
- Emergency Preparedness: Conduct regular drills and training sessions with staff and security teams.
- Player, Executive & Staff Safety: Coordinate secure arrival/departure, in-house procedures & protocols for players, executives, and staff.
- Player, Executive & Staff Safety: Liaise with team operations and player services to ensure privacy and protection while at facility and when moving as a team throughout the region.
- Player, Executive & Staff Safety: Support team with out-of-market travel assessments and escorting.
- Player, Executive & Staff Safety: Investigations and threat assessments as required.
- Player, Executive & Staff Safety: Liaise regularly with NHL and arena security personnel.
- Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure compliance with NHL security standards, local laws, and facility policies.
- Compliance & Risk Management: Conduct risk assessments and recommend improvements to mitigate threats and investigations.
- Technology, Reporting & Budget: Maintain and upgrade security systems (CCTV, alarms, access control).
- Technology, Reporting & Budget: Prepare incident reports, trend analyses, and recommendations for executive leadership.
- Technology, Reporting & Budget: Maintain & report on security operations budget
Qualifications
- Minimum 7 years of experience in security management, preferably in sports, entertainment, or high-profile environments.
- Prior experience working with law enforcement or military is a plus.
- Strong leadership and crisis management skills.
- Familiarity with security technologies and systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- First Aid/CPR/AED Certification
- Minimum of a Bachelors degree preferred
Compensation
Total Rewards Package
- Compensation: In accordance with Washington’s Equal Pay and Opportunity Act, the expected salary range for this position is $140,000 - $160,000. Actual base pay will depend on employee’s experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
