The GEO Group is seeking candidates for a Security Monitor role at a 24/7 operational facility. This position includes 12-hour shifts, and overtime may be requested per facility needs.
Overview
Responsibilities and qualifications reflect a role focused on maintaining security, ensuring facility safety, and supporting resident/staff welfare in a correctional/reentry services environment.
Responsibilities
- Maintain continuous state of alertness and awareness to control and secure the facility and residents.
- Ensure equipment for each watch is operational (radios, flashlights, keys) prior to relieving the watch.
- Prepare shift documentation (shift reports, work orders, security reports, unusual incidents) that are legible, concise, and meet facility standards and contracting agency requirements.
- Receive information from the previous shift and relay any special instructions.
- Relieve the watch and notify necessary personnel; log relief times and personnel.
- Conduct radio checks and document results in the security log.
- Perform facility counts at prescribed times and ensure logbooks are accurate.
- Patrol the building to observe residents and monitor the state of the facility; participate in activities such as detecting odors or ensuring doors/windows are secured.
- Maintain a current building picture board with resident photos in the correct bed slots.
- Organize and supervise resident work details to support facility cleanliness and compliance with requirements.
- Conduct activities on a scheduled or random basis including urinalysis testing, pat-downs, shakedowns, counts, and breath tests as needed to maintain security.
- Document disciplinary actions for rule violations per procedures and log accordingly.
- Conduct cleanliness checks of the facility and residents’ belongings to meet health and environmental requirements.
- Welcom e visitors and verify identity with professionalism and courtesy.
- Communicate with residents and staff to promote positive relations and respect.
- Participate in staff meetings to share observations and recommendations for improvement.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and comply with company policies and procedures.
- Adhere to attendance policies and be available to work shifts or overtime to ensure coverage and safety.
- Safely perform duties following facility safety rules and take corrective action as needed.
- Interact effectively with all staff levels to foster a team environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent.
- One (1) year of general work experience; related field experience is preferred.
- Strong organizational skills to manage ongoing workflow.
- Ability to express thoughts clearly in written and verbal form with correct grammar.
- Flexibility to perform a wide range of duties and adapt to changing needs.
- Ability to interact effectively with others and learn supervisory techniques.
- Ability to maintain positive relations with staff and residents.
- Ability to motivate and foster a constructive work environment.
- Ability to work with computers and facility software.
