Overview
Guards industrial or commercial property against fire, theft, vandalism and illegal entry.
Responsibilities
- Patrols, periodically, buildings and grounds of work site.
- Examines doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure.
- Follows all hazardous waste handling guidelines.
- Warns violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles, and apprehends or expels miscreants.
- Inspects equipment and machinery to ascertain if tampering has occurred.
- Watches for and reports irregularities, such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and security doors left unlocked.
- Observes departing personnel to guard against theft of company property.
- Sounds alarm or calls police or fire department by telephone in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
- Permits authorized persons to enter property.
- May register at watch stations to record time of inspection trips.
- May record data, such as property damage, unusual occurrences, and malfunctioning of machinery or equipment, for use of supervisory staff.
- Completes records and maintains logs.
- May perform janitorial duties and set thermostatic controls to maintain specified temperature in buildings or cold storage rooms.
- May be contacted for after-hour equipment pickup and delivery.
- May regulate vehicle and pedestrian traffic at plant entrance to maintain orderly.
- Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules. Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications
May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Must have an actively current state issued driver’s license. Be able to pass a federal criminal background check and drug screen.
Effective verbal and written communications skills. Add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers accurately.
Maintain professional appearance, courtesy, and conduct, always.
Examine, inspect, verify all incoming and outgoing traffic as required.
Compare and see differences in the size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects.
Complete records accurately and consistently, maintain shift notes and logs, ensure shift turnover is clear and concise.
Work a 12-hour rotating shift in varying temperature extremes and outside conditions.
Perform plant radio announcements and traffic control as needed.
Perform after-hours callouts and communicate with plant personnel as needed to ensure proper support.
Able to maintain balance on stairs and various walking surfaces as needed.
Produce quality work per supervisor’s instructions, procedures, specifications, and industry standards.
Able to prioritize and accurately complete multiple tasks and seek direction when in doubt.
Perform and document seatbelt and random vehicle/bag inspections outside in all conditions as directed.
Accurately enter traffic and weight data into SAP.
Ability to evaluate situations and exercise independent judgement.
Understand and comply with all Plant Policies and Procedures.
Must have the personal courage to intervene when necessary.
Must be able to drive at night, conduct solo patrols in the dark.
Possess the ability to write legibly or willingly to type notes.
Must be comfortable working alone.
