Summary Statement
A class incumbent is responsible for interviewing, making recommendations and assisting clients in utilizing available resources to meet personal, social, health and economic needs in order to develop their self sufficiency.
Essential Functions
Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class. Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here. Provides information and referral services to enable clients to meet individual needs. Informs individuals of Federal, State and local programs/services available. Acts on behalf of individual or group to obtain services if necessary. Maintains record of all requests for services and classifies them. Acts as substitute for other workers when needed and provides coverage for other DSSC programs as assigned. Performs follow up activities with clients to assure client is receiving needed services as well as meeting their responsibilities. Provides transportation and schedules clients eligible for assistance.
Job Requirement Series
JOB REQUIREMENTS for Social Service Specialist I Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
Six months experience in record keeping. Six months experience in applying laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures. Six months experience in using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data. Knowledge of health or human services support such as interviewing clients and assessing personal, health, social or financial needs in accordance with program requirements or coordinating with community resources to obtain client services. JOB REQUIREMENTS for Social Service Specialist II Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
Six months experience in health or human services support such as interviewing clients and assessing personal, health, social or financial needs in accordance with program requirements or coordinating with community resources to obtain client services. Six months experience in record keeping. Six months experience in applying laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures. Six months experience in using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.
