job Description for a veterinary assistant
Summary: The Veterinary Assistant supports veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing care for animals. This role involves assisting in medical procedures, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and enhancing the overall experience for clients and their pets.
Responsibilities: Assist veterinarians during examinations and medical procedures. Prepare animals and equipment for surgery and other procedures. Administer medications and vaccinations as directed by the veterinarian. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the clinic, including sterilization of instruments. Provide general care and feeding for animals in the clinic. Record keeping and updating of patients' medical files. Educate clients on basic pet care and post-treatment care instructions. Assist in handling and restraining animals safely and humanely. Required Skills:
High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in a veterinary or animal care setting is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to handle animals safely and compassionately. Basic understanding of animal behavior and medical terminology. Physical stamina to lift and restrain pets of various sizes. Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions precisely. Certification as a Veterinary Assistant (preferred but not required).
