Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Mohs Surgery Medical Assistant to join our dynamic dermatology team. This individual will assist the Mohs surgeon in performing skin cancer procedures, ensuring a seamless experience for patients. The ideal candidate will have experience in a medical setting, with a strong focus on dermatology or surgical support, and possess excellent patient care skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare patients for Mohs surgery, including explaining the procedure and addressing any patient concerns. Assist the Mohs surgeon during procedures by providing necessary instruments, materials, and support. Prepare and maintain a sterile surgical field during procedures. Monitor and record patient vital signs and medical history prior to and during surgery. Assist with patient positioning and ensure patient comfort throughout the procedure. Perform wound dressing and provide post-operative care instructions to patients. Send tissue specimens to the pathology lab. Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including surgical notes and follow-up instructions. Ensure the surgical environment is clean, organized, and well-stocked with necessary supplies. Provide patient education regarding skin cancer, surgical aftercare, and preventive skin health. Schedule patient follow-up appointments and assist with other administrative tasks as needed. Adhere to safety and infection control protocols at all times. Qualifications:
Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA) is required. American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification within 6 months of hire Previous experience in a dermatology or surgical environment is a plus. Strong knowledge of medical terminology, particularly in dermatology and surgical settings. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-focused attitude. Ability to maintain composure in fast-paced, high-pressure situations. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently. Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for extended periods of time. Ability to lift and carry medical supplies and equipment. Ability to bend, stoop, and reach to assist in surgeries and patient care.
