Job Summary
Responsible for being knowledgeable of the geographical area assigned and operates the vehicle within state/federal statutes and/or guidelines. Read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public. Acquires pick-up tickets and completes route in the most efficient manner. Load donations on the truck in the most organized manner to allow as many pickups as possible on each truck load and to minimize damage/breakage. Clean and secure the vehicle and equipment; conduct daily inspections of the vehicle’s oil, water, tires, and other items of the vehicle to maintain good operating condition.
Responsibilities
- Acquire pick-up tickets and complete the route in the most efficient manner.
- Load donations on the truck in an organized manner to maximize pickups and minimize damage.
- Clean and secure the vehicle and equipment; conduct daily inspections of the vehicle’s oil, water, tires, and other items to maintain good operating condition.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of assigned geographical area.
- Ability to organize pick-up tickets and schedule routes to save time and fuel.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently with a variety of personalities.
- Ability to read, write and effectively communicate in the English language.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
- One year of experience driving a heavy-duty truck or large van or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Licenses and Certifications
- Valid State Driver’s License
- Valid DOT Medical Card
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License, desired but not required.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Ability to meet attendance requirements.
- Ability to read and follow a map and/or hand-written directions; read and speak English sufficiently to converse with the general public, respond to official inquiries, and make entries on reports and records.
- Ability to successfully work with a variety of personalities and people in a positive manner.
- Ability to drive a heavy-duty truck and follow DOT regulations and safety standards.
- Moderate amount of strenuous physical effort required (generally over 100 lbs) 25-50% of work time, including sitting, walking, standing, lifting, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, and carrying heavy objects.
- Work requires driving a vehicle with exposure to outdoors and weather; there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather and with noise, dust, dirt and the like.
