REPORTS TO: Middle School Principal & Assistant Principal

STATUS: Full Time/Non-Exempt

Hours/Work Day: Monday - Friday 7:30-3:45

PURPOSE:

Under the direction & supervision of the 5-8 school principal, The Dean of Students is critical in supporting the mission and values of Tapestry to educate and inspire a diverse community of learners by engaging them in rigorous real-world learning experiences which prioritize intellectual, social and emotional growth. This position is responsible for assisting in all operational functions of Tapestry Middle School's daily operations including but not limited to; monitoring and guiding classroom management support, office administration, community relations, parent/guardian communication, and personnel in accordance with Tapestry Charter School mission and vision. In alignment with our strategic plan, Tapestry Charter School focuses on three dimensions of student achievement. The first dimension is mastery of skills and knowledge, the second dimension is student character and engagement and the third dimension is high-quality student work. Our 5-8 Dean of Students assists Tapestry in meeting these objectives by fostering a positive, safe, and inclusive student centered environment for all through the following responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

As delegated by the Assistant Principal and/or Principal, assist in development and management of daily operations, safety, and administrative processes.

Provides supervision of students in various settings throughout the day (Ex. Arrival, Cafe., Dismissal)

Offers teachers classroom support with behaviors aligned with PIRR

Serves as a primary resource for student concerns, conflict, and mediations

Communicate with families and parents/guardians

Maintain school-wide focus on high expectations of student achievement and behavior by driving key initiatives as assigned by the Principal and Assistant Principal

Effectively build and maintain relationships with students, staff, parents, and community stakeholders that establish mutual trust and respect.

Develops and cultivates a school wide culture that promotes positive relationships across all levels.

Participates in appropriate staff meetings and trainings

STUDENT SAFETY & DISCIPLINE

Oversees student discipline in Power School in alignment with Tapestry's restorative practices & Code of Conduct ensuring both fairness & consistency.

Demonstrates leadership during emergency situations in alignment with Tapestry practices while ensuring the learning environment is calm and productive.

Investigates complaints in collaboration with Assistant Principal and/or Principal to determine appropriate remedies.

Holds re-entry meetings and communicates the outcomes to appropriate staff.

Implements and progress monitors students on behavior contracts

STUDENT LIFE & CULTURE

Oversee student life activities including athletics, programs and social activities.

Support school-wide PIRR initiatives.

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT & INSTRUCTION

Provides push-in support to teachers for classroom management

Works with all stakeholders, including parents, teachers and other administrators with implementing classroom/school-wide behavior management strategies.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Excellent organization, time management and follow-up skills; high sense of urgency; demonstrated ability to successfully handle multiple projects concurrently; ability to work as a team.

Ability to provide excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively and interact effectively with different audiences.

Knowledge of applicable laws, Education code, regulations that govern educational practices.

Collaborate strongly with staff and leadership
